The Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari) movie, directed by Makoto Shinkai, opened to 1.33 million viewers and made 1.88 billion yen (about US$13.49 million) in its first three days.

Suzume’s adventure, begun by her curiosity about this door, is about to take an unexpected turn. Shinkai has said that the film is a road movie set in Japan, a story about “closing doors” rather than opening them, and an excuse to go to the theater. Nanoka Hara stars as Suzume Iwato, the film’s protagonist, whose voice is provided by Hara.
