The Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari) movie, directed by Makoto Shinkai, opened to 1.33 million viewers and made 1.88 billion yen (about US$13.49 million) in its first three days.

Suzume’s adventure, begun by her curiosity about this door, is about to take an unexpected turn. Shinkai has said that the film is a road movie set in Japan, a story about “closing doors” rather than opening them, and an excuse to go to the theater.
