Which Are The Best Moments Of The Awards?

1. The tribute to Loretta Lynn

Loretta Lynn’s passing at age 90 last month shocked many in the country music industry as they mourned the pioneering legend who opened doors for countless women. First, archival footage from 1972, when Lynn became the first woman to win CMA’s entertainer of the year award played followed by a tribute performance by Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Reba McEntire.

Underwood’s “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)”, Lambert’s “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind)”, McEntire’s “You’re Looking at Country” and Lambert and McEntire’s “Coal Miner’s Daughter” made for a sparkling medley of some of Loretta Lynn’s greatest hits. When Underwood and Lambert went home empty-handed, it would have been the first time a woman had won entertainer of the year since Taylor Swift in 2011.

2. 90’s Country and Cole Swindell With Jo Dee Messina

The crowd went wild when Cole Swindell and Jo Dee Messina took the stage together to perform a rousing rendition of “She Had Me at Heads Carolina” a cover of Messina’s 1996 hit.

Swindell, who has had several successful singles in the past, has seen this one explode over the summer and fall spending five weeks atop the radio charts because as everyone in Nashville knows the ’90s nostalgia phenomenon is real and overwhelming. This week just in time for their CMAs performance Swindell and Messina dropped a remix of the song they worked on together.

3. Chris Stapleton and Patty Loveless Together in Award

Both artists hail from Kentucky and their collaboration on Loveless’s “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” at the CMAs was a treat for fans who first saw them perform together at a recent benefit concert for flood relief in their home state.

Chris Stapleton‘s powerful voice won male vocalist of the year for a reason never fails to excite country music fans, and when combined with Patty Loveless’s equally impressive performance. They were practically on their feet before the song was over.

4. The Tribute to Alan Jackson

Cameras caught Kelsea Ballerini, Breland, Ashley McBryde, Luke Combs and a slew of other modern country stars singing along to Alan Jackson’s classics as he received a befitting tribute.

Jackson, this year’s Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award recipient performed “Don’t Rock the Jukebox” but many other artists also sang Jackson’s hits including Underwood Remember When, Dierks Bentley, Jon Pardi, and Gretchen Wilson, who sang “Chattahoochee”, “Drive” and “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow, respectively.

5. Thomas Rhett and Katy Perry’s Surprise Chemistry

Thomas Rhett and Katy Perry singing a duet together with Perry sporting a fringe dress and cowboy hat for maximum country authenticity don’t seem like it should work. They worked well together on the nostalgic “Where We Started” which is about the couple’s early years.
Perry has admitted she had to ask fellow “American Idol” judge Bryan who he was because she had no idea who he was and Rhett has admitted he doubted Perry would ever agree to be on the song. The only difference was that this time around their vocals was even stronger than when they performed the song together on the spring “Idol” finale.

Which Are the Worst Moments Of the Award?

1. The Monologue Jokes

Even after Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood hosted the CMAs for a decade and a half the show has not been able to find a hosting duo who can match their charisma and comedic timing.

Last year Bryan hosted without NFL star Manning this year, he was joined by Manning who is not only friends with country stars thanks to their time spent together at the University of Tennessee but also has his own show on ESPN, which is owned by Disney which also owns ABC.

2. The lack of a Naomi Judd Tribute

Although it was likely difficult to pay proper tribute to each of the many country music icons who passed away in the past 12 months. It was perplexing that Naomi Judd an icon in her own right was largely ignored after her untimely death in August.

When Naomi’s daughter and duo partner Wynonna arrived to make the announcement the Osborne brothers took it upon themselves to make the announcement. The brothers insisted that she stay onstage with them while they gave their speeches. We’ve picked up a lot of wisdom from you and your family, T.J. Osborne said.

Bryan paid tribute to Jeff Cook, co-founder of the band Alabama who passed away this week and Old Dominion winners of the group of the year award briefly discussed Alabama’s influence on their music. Matthew Ramsey the band’s lead singer once said, “There’s nothing like being in a band.” I can’t fathom the idea of being short a man.

Did Maren Morris Skip the 2022 CMA Red Carpet?

The country star who is nominated for album of the year skipped the red carpet 2022 CMAs on Wednesday. Despite being nominated for a major award, Maren Morris skipped the red carpet at the 2022 Country Music Association Awards.

Morris had fans wondering if she would show up to the annual award show at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday night after voicing her displeasure with it in an interview in September. Album of the Year nominees includes her most recent release, Humble Quest.

Just in time for the album of the year category, she and her husband Ryan Hurd finally made it to the awards show. Morris gave her fellow country star a standing ovation after Luke Combs won, then left the venue.

Morris later gave her followers a sneak peek at her outfit in a sassy video she posted to Twitter, in which she can be seen strutting down a hallway while singing Taylor Swift‘s “Karma”.

Morris told the Times that she was on the fence about going to the CMAs because she often feels “awkward” at award shows like this one. I really haven’t decided if I’m going to go, she said. I appreciate the nomination very much. But I can’t say that I currently identify with that place as home. My friends and family will all be there and I may decide at the last minute to go. In any case, I just don’t trust myself to go there at the moment.
