1. The Silence of the Lambs

The Silence of The Lambs

Based on Thomas Harris’s 1988 novel of the same name, The Silence of the Lambs is a 1991 American psychological horror film directed by Jonathan Demme and written by Ted Tally.

Jodie Foster plays Clarice Starling, a young FBI trainee on the trail of Buffalo Bill, a serial killer who skins his female victims. She enlists the help of the incarcerated Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer to help her track him down.

To better understand the mindset of a serial killer who preys on women, FBI agent Clarice Starling consults with the psychopathic serial killer and former psychiatrist who is currently serving time in a maximum security prison.

Next comes a spine-chilling tale that will make your skin crawl as the killer and the detective are revealed. The Silence of the Lambs is often categorized as a horror film, despite the fact that it is not particularly scary but rather profoundly unsettling in a way that very few films have ever accomplished.

2. Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands

The best example of Tim Burton’s gothic-infused style can be found in Edward Scissorhands. The American fantasy romance film Edward Scissorhands was directed by Tim Burton. Burton and Denise Di Novi served as executive producers.

The plot concerns a scissor-handed artificial humanoid who is taken in by a suburban family and develops romantic feelings for the daughter of the household. He does what he can to repay their generosity and integrate himself into the neighborhood, but his efforts are fruitless.

On the one hand, the film explores the plight of the social outcasts who try to fit in despite widespread mistrust. It’s a tragic love story that almost borders on poetry. This was Tim Burton’s first film to star Johnny Depp and it features a score by Danny Elfman who was working with Burton for the fourth time. In the future, they would collaborate on several films including Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows and others.

3. Candyman

Candyman

Nia DaCosta will helm the supernatural horror film Candyman in 2021. This film gives the legend of Candyman a fresh interpretation. Anthony McCoy, the artist played by Abdul-Mateen II has ties to the events of 1992. The legend of the Candyman lures him down a dark road as he searches for artistic inspiration.

There’s a palpable sense of dread throughout the story and not because of any jump scares or bloodshed rather it’s because you know where the story is going from the get-go and desperately want to be proven wrong. The new origin story of the Candyman, which includes a powerful message about racial discrimination, systemic violence, and the power of stories to help the oppressed fight back, is a tragedy in its own right.

But it also serves as a new beginning for the character. This film never focuses on gentrification, violence, or even the legend of Candyman on its own terms. Indeed Peele and DaCosta succeed in transforming the mediums of storytelling and narrative into a supernaturally vengeful force.

4. The Northman

The Northman

Production on The Northman directed by Robert Eggers and set for release in 2022 began in earnest. A prince who has lost his kingdom sets out to avenge his murdered father, rescue his kidnapped mother and kill the usurper who stole his birthright in The Northman, a tale of vengeance.

That, however, is not the end of the story. The conflict in The Northman between man’s animal nature and his capacity for civilization can be seen from a variety of perspectives. It can also be interpreted as a sobering reminder that no matter how much we try, we cannot change our destinies.

And by the end of it all, you might get the impression that this act of vengeance as grand and bloody as it is, is nothing more than a footnote in a history that goes back and forth through time indefinitely.

The visual director of photography, Jarin Blaschke does an excellent job. Especially during the film’s climactic, high-heat showdown. Alexander Skarsgard is at his beastly best, Anya Taylor-Joy gives a chilling performance, and Nicole Kidman plays what may be her most nuanced character to date. This is one of the best films of 2022, so don’t miss it.

5. The Little Hours

The Little Hours

Right off the bat, I want to say that this is not a movie that families should take their kids to. The Little Hours is an extremely funny, raunchy, and surreal film. This film is set in and around a nunnery in Garfagnana, Italy in the year 1347.

Three nuns are at the center of this comedy as they each try to find their calling in their own unique ways. Here we have Masseto, a servant who is on the run after having an affair with his master’s wife. As these characters interact with one another, the absurdity level rises with each scene until it finally gloriously explodes.

The film is based on two tales from Giovanni Boccaccio’s The Decameron, a 14th-century anthology, proving that medieval people were just as kinky and foul-mouthed as modern ones.

6. Fight Club

The Fight Club

The story of an unnamed Narrator Edward Norton who has trouble sleeping and despises his job is told in the film “Fight Club”.  Which is based on the novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk. The concept of a fight club is conceived when the narrator meets Tyler Durden, who provokes the narrator into hitting him.

In no time at all, a basement bar is teeming with men who have been itching to get their blood pumping by fighting each other. All of them have learned and adhered to the first and most sacred rule of the fight club.

The movie keeps developing into an increasingly disturbing psychological thriller. While writer Jim Uhls saw the film as a romantic comedy between the Narrator and his love interest Marla Singer, director David Fincher saw it as a coming-of-age story. Quite the gloomy comedy to be sure. The movie didn’t do well at the box office at first, but its reputation as a controversial work has grown over time.

7. The Lost City

The Lost City

U.S. action-adventure comedy film The Lost City is set to be released in 2022 and will be directed by the Nee brothers. Bullock plays a reclusive writer who is kidnapped by a zany billionaire and forced to search for a lost treasure. Tatum’s character the cover model provides her with some unexpected assistance.

Bullock and Tatum play off each other brilliantly as the bitter novelist and the giddy hipster, respectively in this film. Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter films, plays the film’s antagonist with a charming caricature of evil in The Lost City. One of Brad Pitt’s best recent comedic performances elevates an already entertaining popcorn flick to a whole new level in this cameo.

8. House Of Gucci

House Of Gucci

Based on the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Ridley Scott is set to direct the biographical crime drama House of Gucci in 2021. Patrizia Reggiani and Maurizio Gucci’s love story is the focus of this film. Patrizia Reggiani works for her father’s small trucking company as the office manager in 1978.

A law student and half-brother to Gucci fashion house founder Guccio Gucci, she meets him at a party in the early 1980s. Once Patrizia learns she is pregnant, she sees her child as a way to bring her family back together. Enjoying House of Gucci comes down to watching its impressive cast in action.

9. Jennifer’s Body

Jennifer’s Body

There was a 2009 American horror comedy called Jennifer’s Body. In his portrayal of a high school girl possessed by a demon who murders her male classmates. Fox shows the protagonist and her best friend trying to stop the killing spree.

Anita “Needy” Lesnicki, formerly of the small town, was an insecure and studious teenager who now tells her story from solitary confinement as a violent mental inmate. Jennifer takes Needy to an indie rock show at a dive bar. It’s a great film that doesn’t get nearly enough credit for being entertaining.

10. The Wolf Of Wall Street

The Wolf Of Wall Street

The Wolf of Wall Street is a film adaptation of Jordan Belfort’s memoir of the same name, published in 2007. It’s a wild ride full of drugs, corruption, and ludicrous antics. The film is directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Belfort and Jonah Hill as his business partner and right-hand man Donnie Azoff. The film follows Belfort as he becomes the most notorious stockbroker on Wall Street and eventually falls from grace by employing every underhanded technique known to man.
