Real Madrid vs. Celtic: Asensio got his revenge for the first half when Real Madrid poured on the pressure without Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema because of a muscular ailment.

Asensio was instrumental in the early going, with Modric and Rodrygo scoring from the penalty spot after Celtic defenders committed handbells. Five minutes into the game he played a fantastic through ball to Rodrygo but the Brazilian’s slanted shot slammed off the post.

Modric scored the penalty after Valverde’s shot from the rebound was deflected by a defender’s hand and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Champions League Quarterfinal Knockout Draw (Seedings, Date and Time). After 18 minutes, Madrid was handed another penalty and after a VAR review, Rodrygo converted once more.

Six minutes after halftime Asensio doubled Real’s lead with a beautiful volley from a Dani Carvajal cross. Ten minutes later Valverde made a fantastic move down the right wing and passed for Vinicius to score with a close-range effort.

The fifth was scored by Valverde with another of his signature long-range strikes into the top corner. Valverde has now scored five goals this season from outside the box in all competitions, more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

As a couple, we can now say, “We’re happy. It was a good match, said Valverde, who has scored four goals in his last five outings. We capitalized on our chances and scored the goals we needed to win.

My style of play is to always be on the move so that I can contribute to the team and keep scoring goals. My loved ones encouraged me to seize the opportunity, therefore I have been doing just that. My teammates are continuously telling me that one day I’ll break the ball.

Five minutes from the end Jota scored a consolation goal for Celtic by guiding a free kick into the upper right corner.

Real Madrid vs. Celtic: Player Ratings

Real Madrid 5 – Celtic 1 in Player Ratings

We give Thibaut Courtois a 9.5: The Belgian keeper produced several key saves from close range after Real Madrid’s press was broken, leaving the defense vulnerable, and he was also rock-solid with the ball. We did let in a free-kick goal in the 85th minute, but in such a lopsided game, we won’t be whining about it.

A 6.5 for Ferland Mendy: His poor timing of a challenge inside the area in the first half resulted in a penalty for Celtic. Was quite competent with the ball and the only starter who didn’t throw an interception.

A 6.5 for David Alaba: The Austrian didn’t contribute much to the game, and he made a few poor deep passes.

Rating from Eder Militao:  Under pressure, he made many turnovers and almost let in a goal for Celtic in the 65th minute before Courtois made a stop. Did finish with a game-high five clearances.

I’ll go with a 6.5 from Dani Carvajal: Under pressure, he made some bad passes and tried some daring dribbles and passes that he couldn’t finish.

For Fede Valverde, the score is 9: Quick accurate passing; one assist; one golazo; four critical passes. What a fantastic match.

Seven and a half for Toni Kroos. By his standards, it was a relatively low-key game. His primary responsibility was to dish out from a deep position and he did a fantastic job of doing so as he always does.

The score for Luka Modric is an 8: The Croatian had some incredible touches and passes tonight. Furthermore, he opened the scoring with a penalty kick.

Jr., Vinicius – age 7: He had a few chances to score but missed the mark each time. The Celtics stacked the deck against him there.

This is Rodrygo’s Go and he gets an 8: tallied a goal and had Vinicius made better use of a golden opportunity would have been credited with an assist. Generally speaking, the Brazilian played an excellent game.

Marco Asensio, the top forward for Real Madrid, receives a rating of 9.5. Asensio’s performance here felt quite “retro.” In addition to scoring, he also had five vital passes, some spectacular through balls and link-up play.
