Liverpool vs. Napoli: Liverpool responded to their loss to Leeds United by beating Napoli 2-0 in a tightly contested match, but the Serie A club nevertheless won the group and advanced to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp’s team bounced back from a disappointing 2-1 loss to Leeds at the weekend with a win thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez, albeit the latter’s late goal prevented Liverpool from beating Napoli by the four-goal margin necessary to win the group.

“That was the reaction I wanted to see,” Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said.
“We don’t doubt our quality, I don’t think anyone doubts that, but part of the problem is we show inconsistency”.
“It was the worst possible start to this group with the performance against Napoli. They deserved the first place in the group.”
Klopp made four changes from the team that lost at Anfield, but the first half saw few quality scoring opportunities. Thiago had the best chance with a looping shot that Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret saved.
Leo Ostigard appeared to give Napoli the lead off a free kick taken by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the 53rd minute, but the goal was disallowed due to offside following a video assistant referee review.
Salah scored the game-winning goal for Liverpool in stoppage time after Meret mishandled Nunez’s header from a corner.

After a lengthy review, the referees awarded Liverpool a goal in stoppage time when Nunez buried the rebound of Virgil van Dijk’s thunderous header.
Spalletti remarked, “We are proud of getting through such a difficult group, not just getting through but topping it.” It seemed like a very even contest throughout, with opportunities for both teams.
