The Callisto Protocol – Release Date Announced At Sony’s State

The Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol

On Jupiter in the year 2320, you play the role of protagonist Jacob Lee in what promises to be a narrative-focused, third-person game. Most recently, we learned that the development team at Striking Distance Studios, which is responsible for the survival horror game, took inspiration from “real-life” terror and gore.

It is now official that The Callisto Protocol will be shown as part of GamesCom Opening Night Live. Please continue reading to learn all that we currently know about The Callisto Protocol.

The Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol will be available on December 2, 2022, as announced at Sony’s State of Play showcase on June 2, 2022.

The Callisto Protocol Reveal And Gameplay Trailers

A scared inmate in the prison’s gloomy lighting investigates mysterious noises in this gorgeous teaser. Of course, our naive prisoner’s day doesn’t go off without incident. As his anxiety rises and the lights outside his cell flicker, a horrifying Alien-like entity controls his sleeping cellmate and devours our hapless protagonist in a chillingly horrible manner. You can rule out the Sackboy label for this one.

We got our best look yet at The Callisto Protocol at Summer Game Fest 2022, and it looked fantastic. Even in this little demo, it’s obvious that Dead Space was a major influence on the game, but make no mistake: this is no easy rip-off. The 2nd of December can’t come soon enough.

The Callisto Protocol platforms

So far, we know that the PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PC will all be playable versions of the game. There is still hope that Google’s streaming service may host Callisto Protocol given that it was published by PUBG’s Krafton, who also distributed the battle royale on Stadia. We still have some time before the release date of December 2, so let’s delve deeper into the horrific mythology that underpins this terrifying new universe.

The Callisto Protocol Gameplay, Settings, And Characters

This horrific story of interplanetary survival is set 300 years in the future, as has already been indicated. In this story set in the year 2320, the protagonist, named Callisto, travels to a part of Jupiter that humans have never explored.

The game takes place in the grim and perilous Black Iron Prison on the moon Callisto, where terrifying animals and a conspiracy await the player. The little number of interviews and teaser trailers we have available make it difficult to draw any firm conclusions about the plot. What little information we have suggests a third-person perspective and a focus on narrative.

The Callisto Protocol Gameplay

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Schofield explains that “mystery is part of the importance of a game like this.” I mean, what’s around the corner from here? Where does the door lead? I think we struck a decent balance between revealing just enough and keeping key details about our game’s mechanics, characters, and plot – a lot of the story – under wraps so that we can reveal them gradually as the game progresses. There are some things we can’t explain to the audience.

The protagonist of Callisto is named Jacob Lee, and he has the ability to push and pull items, thanks to further screenshots and data about the game released in a recent issue of Game Informer. Josh Duhamel, best known for his role as Optimus Prime in Transformers, will play Jacob, as the official Twitter account recently confirmed.

According to the game’s official site, “the player is tasked with breaking out of the supermax Black Iron Prison and discovering the prison’s frightening secrets.” As the description puts it, “the game seeks to set a new bar for terror in interactive entertainment with its blend of horror, action, and immersive storyline.”

Callisto plans to reintroduce Dead Space’s inventive “diegetic” HUD, which is sure to please the game’s many players. The English translation, please. This means that the protagonist’s costume, gun overlays, and so on will serve as a window onto the status of the player’s character. This fictitious HUD was worn around the prisoner’s neck in the promotional video.

An unknown man or woman viewing the prison’s surveillance cameras is the only other notable individual shown in the aforementioned preview. Whether this mysterious person is the jail warden or someone else responsible for the emergence of these ghastly animals, we will eventually find out.

The missing link in the story’s shockingly thin plot? The Charon, a sailing vessel. An announcement gives the Charon the all-clear to land, and we still don’t know who’s on board, except for the mysterious figure who seems to be towering over the camera control panel.

Callisto Protocol Is No Longer A Part Of The Wider PUBG Universe

At first, it was thought that PUBG and The Callisto Protocol existed in different fictitious timelines. What’s the deal here? The studio that brought you the popular battle royale game also publishes Callisto Protocol. Schofield told GamesRadar+ that “there will be little ties here and there” between the two drastically different games, despite this horror outing taking place on Jupiter 300 years in the future. This implausible lore-building will “make more sense after the game comes out,” he added.

Still, Schofield made it clear in a Tweet in May 2022 that this was no longer the case. Schofield claimed in the release that the future horror game no longer “takes place in the PUBG universe” because it has “developed into its own realm.”
