On October 21st, during a performance of “Bad Habit” in New Orleans, a concertgoer threw a camera onto the stage.
Fan footage from the Orpheum Theatre balcony shows Lacy interrupting his performance to warn the crowd against “throwing shit on my fucking stage.” Please!” At first glance, it appeared that Lacy was making her way to the back of the platform. However, she quickly turned around and asked a spectator in the front row if they would lend her their camera.
Some people in the audience applauded and others gasped as the singer threw the camera across the stage after the fan complied. As he left the stage, he remarked, “Yeah, that’s it. Peace.”
Though he shortened it this time, “Bad Habit” is typically the last song of his set. There were rumors he never returned to the stage after the incident, but this is not proven. He didn’t say anything on social media until Tuesday night when he posted the following on Instagram:
“Shoutout to the people not throwing disposable cameras at me and just coming to catch a vibe and connect,” he wrote. “I had a really good time in nola last night. I hate that the beauty of the connection I have with so many people in the crowd gets lost when something negative happens.”
“I don’t believe I owe anyone an apology,” he added. “Maybe I could’ve reacted better? Sure. Always. I’m a student of life. But I’m a real person with real feelings and real reactions. I’m not a product or a robot. I am human. I will continue to give my all at these shows. Please come with respect for urself and others please thank you love u.”
In January of this year, Kid Cudi was forced to end his performance at Rolling Loud Miami after only four songs due to being showered with empty water bottles.
After the blow, he proclaimed, “Yo, I will walk off this stage if you all throw one more fucking thing up here, I will leave, I will leave right now.” Almost instantly, someone threw another water bottle at Cudi, and he walked away.
Apple Music’s Zane Lowe asked Cudi about the incident, and Cudi told Lowe, “It’s meant to be an unspoken agreement amongst artists and fans, that you’re supposed to give the highest respect and not interfere with the performance.”
Lacy’s second solo album, “Gemini Rights,” debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, and the album has been the inspiration for a tour. Lacy’s first No. 1 single, “Bad Habit,” was propelled to the top of the charts by the popularity of the video-sharing app TikTok.
