Another exemplary young man has been welcomed to the Paldea area by the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. On Tuesday, the Pokémon Company posted a YouTube broadcast featuring Greavard, a cute yet creepy puppy who is just looking for someone to play with. As the dog chases after a stick, its trainer approaches. But at the end of the video, the trainer faints. Sorry, what?
According to the Scarlet & Violet website, Greavard is “friendly and cuddly,” and will follow you around if you pay it any attention at all. Cute! In the end, I think we can all agree that we would give our lives for Greavard. Then the knife turns. However, Greavard will gradually and unwittingly absorb the life force of those around it, so it’s better not to play with it too much.

Oh. So, we’re willing to give our lives for Greavard. In the most literal sense possible. When it comes to depressing things in the Pokémon universe, this is right up there. Although tragic, it is not the saddest; that honor goes to Cubone, an abandoned ground-type Pokémon who carries the skull of ITS DEAD MOTHER.

Greavard, however, would be higher on my list than the famous Psyduck, whose severe migraines cause permanent mental impairment. I know firsthand how awful chronic headaches are, but at least Psyduck can be around someone who is miserable without fear of accidentally sucking the life force right out of them.
Let’s not even talk about Amaura, a rock-and-ice type Pokémon whose habitat is melting away. In ten years, will there be a home for it? Simply put, we have no idea.
What I do know is that things are obviously not OK at The Pokémon Company. Fortunately, Greavard’s followers still seem to be showering the best boy with tonnes of affection despite his lethal enthusiasm. Just try to keep from wanting to give that snoot a little kiss after seeing that scruffy little face. Then what if we went to the cemetery and kissed Greavard? No, seriously. Or?

And while I’m aware that Greavard resides in Paldea, I think a more fitting place to see one would be at a My Chemical Romance reunion show. (Perhaps Spectrier’s back would be a good place to sit if you want a better view of the stage.) My gut tells me that I would hug him no matter the consequences.
