Instead of burying the body, Daniel decided to hide it in a secret compartment beneath the floor of the hallway. He then went to the kitchen for a knife and the garage for a hacksaw planning to remove the legs and lighten the body by doing so.
Their right leg of Gabriel was completely severed by Daniel, who then cut Gabriel in half. According to the autopsy, Gabriel was still conscious when his legs were sawed off. Daniel attempted, unsuccessfully to squeeze the child through the trapdoor into the crawl space.

It was determined by medical professionals that Gabriel had been sodomized multiple times. In September, Daniel Petry entered a juvenile delinquency facility after being sentenced to a three-year socio-educational term.
