Norman Milton Lear is a 100-year-old American TV screenwriter who has been part of more than 100 television series throughout his career. He first gained popularity in the 1970s for shows like “All in the Family,” “Maude,” “One Day at a Time,” and several others.

Norman Lear Biography
Norman Lear was born on July 27, 1922, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Jeanette and Hyman Lear. At the age of 9, his family moved to Chelsea, Massachusetts as her father was sentenced to prison on charges of selling fake bonds.
In 1940, he completed graduation from Weaver High School and later went to attend Emerson College in Boston, however, he did not complete his studies there and dropped out in 1942 so that he could serve in the United States Army Air Forces.

Norman Lear Career
Lear took up a career in public relations after World War II. In the mid-1950s, he began his career as a writer with NBC’s The Martha Raye Show and thereafter he also created his TV series The Deputy.

Lear has been married thrice, from 1956 to 1985 he was married to the publisher of Lear’s magazine, Frances Loeb. Later in 1986, the two parted ways and Lear paid $112 million to his first wife in the divorce settlement. He married his current wife Lyn Davis, a producer. He is also godparent to singer and actress Katey Sagal.
