Swedish-American rapper, singer, and songwriter Gustav Elijah hr (November 1, 1996 – November 15, 2017) was better known by his stage name, Lil Peep. He belonged to the emo rap crew GothBoiClique. Lil Peep has been hailed as a pivotal figure in the emo rap scene of the mid-to-late 2010s, serving as an inspiration to marginalized youth and paving the way for a new genre of rap and rock. Here you will read details relating to is Lil Peep dead or not?

Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania to an American mother and a Swedish father and brought up on Long Island, Åhr started releasing music on SoundCloud in 2013 under the name “Trap Goose,” later changing his artist identity to Lil Peep because his mother had called him “Peep” since he was a baby.

He quickly became popular on the platform with the official launch of his 2015 single “Star Shopping” and he grew in popularity beyond that with his release of mixtapes Lil Peep, Part One and Live Forever later that year. Both of Lil Peep’s 2016 mixtapes, Crybaby and Hellboy were critically acclaimed. Other 2016 releases from Lil Peep include California Girls and Vertigo.

On February 12, 2016, in Tucson, Lil Peep made his debut as a member of Schemaposse. Later that year, he toured briefly with Fat Nick, Mikey The Magician, and Smokepurpp. Beginning his first solo tour in the spring of 2017, Lil Peep played to sold-out crowds in three Russian cities before moving on to western Europe and the United States. Soon after the tour, Lil Peep moved to London, where he recorded his EP Goth Anger Sinner, and in August he released his debut studio album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1

Lil Peep Early Life

On November 1, 1996, Gustav Elijah hr joined the world in Allentown, Pennsylvania as the second child of first-grade teacher Liza Womack and Harvard history professor Karl Johan hr. John Womack, an economist and historian of Latin America liberation movements, is Åhr’s maternal grandfather.

Before he turned five, his family relocated to Long Beach, New York on Long Island. His only sibling was named Karl “Oskar” hr. His parents both graduated from Harvard. His mother’s family is from Oklahoma, and his father’s family is from Sweden; both have large, close-knit extended families. He was born in Sweden to a Swedish mother and a non-Swedish father, so he automatically acquired Swedish citizenship under Swedish law.

In 2012, when he was 15 years old, his parents decided to go their separate ways. Around the time he turned 16, he started having anxiety attacks, and his mother claims he was drugged with marijuana and Xanax to deal with them.

Lil Peep and his mother had a special bond; at age 14, he got a tattoo of her initials and birthday on his arm. After his parents divorced, he moved to Long Beach, New York with his mom and older brother, where he would go on to record songs like “Lil Peep; Part One,” “Feelz,” “Vertigo,” and “most of “California Girls,” “Garden,” “In the Bedroom I Confess,” “Mall Music,” “Romeo’s Regrets,” and “Star Shopping,” among others.

Lil Peep’s Career

When he was a teen, Lil Peep described himself as an introvert who found most of his friends through social media. Peep, influenced by underground acts like Seshollowaterboyz and iLoveMakonnen, recorded music on Long Island as “Trap Goose” and briefly shared a home with his childhood friend Brennan Savage before the two of them decided to relocate to Los Angeles.

Lil Peep was homeless and lived in Skid Row in Los Angeles before moving into Savage’s apartment while he went to school. Later, Peep moved in with fellow Atlanta rap artist and producer JGRXXN, fellow Florida emcee Ghostemane, and Houston MC Craig Xen to launch their rap group Schemaposse. Craig Xen was the one who introduced him to JGRXXN, a band in need of a singer. During his first year in L.A., Lil Peep also enrolled at Glendale Community College.

Feelz, Peep’s debut LP, was released in 2015. Then he dropped his first mixtape, Lil Peep; Part One, which received 4,000 streams in its first week. A subsequent mixtape, Live Forever, was released not long after.

Lil Peep’s Personal Life

Lil Peep was open and honest about his experiences with homosexuality, depression, heartbreak, and substance abuse. On August 8, 2017, Lil Peep revealed his bisexuality to the world on Twitter. He told his Twitter followers this intimate detail of his life. “Yes i’m bisexual,” Lil Peep said bluntly. After he revealed his bisexuality to the world, he became a regular Twitter antagonist to homophobes. Not only did he work with the openly gay recording artist iLoveMakonnen, whose music similarly blends rap and rock genres, but he was also known to collaborate with him.

Lil Peep’s public debut coincided with his September 2017 romance with singer/actress Bella Thorne. They were caught making out not long after releasing his first full-length album. Thorne dated rapper Mod Sun after their brief romance ended. Lil Peep had met and been dating Instagram influencer Arzaylea Rodriguez while on the Come Over When You’re Sober tour, and they were together until his death in November.

Is Lil Peep Dead?

When his manager checked on him before their scheduled performance in Tucson, Arizona on November 15, 2017, Lil Peep was found dead on the tour bus. His death was attributed to an overdose, so foul play was not considered a factor. Lil Peep claimed to have consumed psilocybin mushrooms and cannabis concentrate in a series of Instagram posts published hours before his untimely death.

In another, he claimed to have taken six Xanax after posting a video of himself repeatedly attempting to swallow an unidentified pill before finally doing so and shaking the entire prescription bottle. Following this, a new post accompanied the caption “When I die, you’ll love me.” A police report released following his death indicated that Lil Peep had napped at 5:45 p.m., just before the concert.

His manager checked on him twice and saw that he was sleeping soundly but could not wake him. Lil Peep was already unresponsive and not breathing by the time the manager checked on him for the third time. Though Lil Peep’s manager attempted CPR before paramedics arrived, the rapper was pronounced dead at the scene.
