A TAP Air Portugal Airbus A320neo crashed into a motorcycle While landing in Conakry (CKY) from Lisbon (LIS). The accident happened on Thursday night, and the two people on the motorcycle died.
Around 23:40, flight TP1492 landed at the Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport in Conakry on runway 24. The plane’s right engine hit a motorcycle crossing the runway while the plane was still on the runway.
Both people who were on the motorcycle were killed, and the driver is thought to have been an airport security officer.
Even though there was a lot of damage to the plane’s engine, no one on board, including passengers and crew, was hurt. Flight TP1493 back to Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport was then canceled, and the plane is still sitting on the ground in Conakry.
Investigation Into The Incident
With help from the airport’s safety and security department, the Civil Aviation Authority of Guinea (AGAC) will start looking into what happened. Both TAP Air Portugal and the airport said they were sorry to the families of the people who died.
In a statement, TAP Air Portugal said,
“Passengers and crew are all fine. All safety procedures were followed, but even so, it was not possible to avoid the accident. TAP is naturally collaborating with the local authorities to investigate the circumstances that led to this regrettable situation.”

TAP Air Portugal And The Airbus A320
According to ch-aviation.com, the Airbus A320neo that crashed on Thursday, CS-TVI, was delivered to TAP Air Portugal in April 2021, making it 1.5 years old. The plane has a total of 174 seats. There are 102 seats in economy class with a 28-inch seat pitch and 72 seats in economy comfort with a 33-inch seat pitch.
TAP Air Portugal has 11 Airbus A320neos in its fleet right now and plans to buy four more. The airline’s Airbus A320neos has an average age of 2.8 years, while its 15 Airbus A320ceos have an average age of 16.8 years.
The Portuguese flag carrier uses its fleet of Airbus A320s to fly short- and medium-haul routes. FlightRadar24.com says that CS-TVI spent the night in Porto before its flight to Conakry on Thursday (OPO). The plane then flew the airline’s early-morning flight to Lisbon. It then flew to Sal (SID) in Cape Verde and back before flying to Lisbon again.
The Airbus A330 is used by TAP Air Portugal on its long-haul routes. In November 2018, the airline became the first customer of the Airbus A330-900. It now has 19 of these planes and has two more on order.
This week, another incident happened at Conakry’s Ahmed Sékou Touré International Airport. A Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-200 hit a lot of turbulence just before landing, sending five passengers to the hospital.
