How Old Is George Jetson? Who Voiced Him In The Jetsons?

George Jetson

George Jetson

The character George Jetson exists only in The Jetsons cartoon. He is the head of the Jetson family and its patriarch. He is the father of two teenagers, Judy and Elroy, and the spouse of Jane Jetson.

The Jetsons

Hanna-Barbera Productions created the popular animated television series The Jetsons for the American market. From September 23, 1962, until March 17, 1963, it aired on ABC during prime time. Reruns began airing in syndication in 1985, and new episodes were produced in 1987. It was like The Flintstones, but set in the future, and it was made by Hanna-Barbera.

While the Flintstones’ world was a parody of the Stone Age, complete with machines powered by birds and dinosaurs, the Jetsons’ world is a parody of the far future, complete with robots, aliens, holograms, and absurd inventions. Beginning on September 23, 1962, ABC aired the show’s original version on Sunday nights for 24 episodes; prime-time reruns aired until September 22, 1963.

It was ABC’s first color TV show ever. On the other hand, the Flintstones were always made in color but only shown in black and white for its first two seasons on television. Following one season of low ratings due to its placement after Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color and Dennis the Menace, the show was canceled and repurposed for Saturday mornings, when it became a smashing success.

George Jetson Character’s Life Story

George lives in the Skypad Apartments in Orbit City with his family and dog Astro in a future that features many of the hallmarks of science fiction and fantasy visions of living in the United States, such as robot attendants, flying saucer-like cars, and moving walkways.

Each housing complex is perched atop a tall pole, making the area reminiscent of Seattle’s Space Needle. Due to pollution, it is revealed in Jetsons: The Movie that the family has taken up residence in the clouds.

George, as a child, had to travel ten kilometers through asteroid storms to get to Orbit High School, where he was the starting pitcher for the school’s Spaceball team. Today, George may be found at his workplace, Spacely’s Space Sprockets, where he helps produce their eponymous “sprockets” and other cutting-edge machinery. His formal occupation description describes him as a “digital index operator.”

George is unhappy with his job since he has to turn a switch on and off as much as five times each hour, three times per day. Mr. Spacely frequently fires George in an irrational rage, only to employ him back before the episode’s close.

George Jetson Time and Place of Birth

People in the year 2020 (fans, fact-checkers, and journalists) argued over when the character was born. Fans claimed July 31st, 2022, as George’s birthday in July 2022, bringing the character back into the spotlight on social media. Though there is some indication from the show indicating the year of his birth is 2022, no official evidence has been found to prove this or any other specific date.

George Jetson’s Age

George announces his age (40) during the premiere season. 40 years from now (2062) is hence the correct answer. Snopes investigated the statement and found it a “fair assessment of his birth year.”

Portrayer

Because of sponsorship problems with his other projects, notably The Dick Van Dyke Show, Morey Amsterdam, who had been engaged to voice the role, was sacked. For violation of contract, Amsterdam sued Hanna-Barbera but was unsuccessful.

George O’Hanlon, who had previously auditioned for but lost out on the job of Fred Flintstone two years ago, was cast as George Jetson’s voice actor and remained in that position for the remainder of his life, during both the 1960s and 1980s iterations of the program. After his untimely passing, O’Hanlon’s final performance as George Jetson was in the posthumously released film Jetsons: The Movie.

After O’Hanlon’s death, Jeff Bergman took over the role of George Jetson, voicing him (and Mr. Spacely) in various scenes of the film. Bergman also voiced George in The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, in a cameo appearance in the episode “Shaggy Busted” of Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, and both of Spümc’s Jetsons shorts, Father & Son Day and The Best Son.

Why Do Jetsons Live In The Sky?

The Jetsons’ floating home begs the question: why? As a result of the Space Needle. Skypad apartment towers were inspired by the Space Needle, according to The Jetsons’ layout and design designer Iwao Takamoto, who spoke to The New York Times in 2005.
