The White Lotus is a comedy-drama TV series created for HBO by Mike White. The series revolves around the fictional White Lotus resort chain’s guests and employees whose stays are impacted by their dysfunctions. Season one of the series aired from July 11, 2021 to August 15, 2021 with a total of six episodes.
The audience received the series well and has an IMDB rating of 7.6 out of 10 whereas 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. After the successful season one, fans are now curious about The White Lotus Season 2 and here’s what we know about it so far.
The White Lotus Season 2 Premiere Date
The series’ popularity led HBO to announce its renewal for a second season slated to air in October this year.
The White Lotus Season 2 Cast
Most fans must expect the return of most lead cast members from the previous season but there is some bad news. In an August 2021 interview, the Freaks and Geeks writer said “I don’t think you can credibly have [all the season-one guests] on the same vacation again.”
Though, he also noted “it could be a Marvel Universe type thing, where some of them would come back,” adding “We only made one-year deals with the actors, so we’d have to find out who is even available.”
The reports of Jennifer Coolidge returning to portray the character of Tanya came out this June. Earlier this year in October, there were reports of her returning as guest star.
The other cast members of the second season include Aubrey Plaza, Michael Imperioli, F. Murray Abraham, Tom Hollander, Haley Lu Richardson, Adam DiMarco, Theo James, Meghann Fahy, and Will Sharpe. Apart from these, we will also see Leo Woodall as a recurring cast member. Beatrice Grannó, Simona Tabasco and Sabrina Impacciatore also landed the cast of Season 2 of the series.
What can we Expect from The White Lotus Season 2?
Though the show creator isn’t willing to rehash the similar storyline saying “In TV, it’s hard to start from scratch and go through the whole thing again,”adding “So you feel like a bird in the hand is worth pursuing,” in last year’s interview before the series’ renewal.
He had also confirmed that he would return for a second season “because I feel like there’s a way to get at some new themes and do it in a way that feels fresh from this one.”
In another interview he said, “If I wanted to create a virtuous show, I could do it,” adding “I feel like I could create characters that fit some people’s political and cultural agenda and probably my own! That would be pandering.”
The show creator also noted “We would go somewhere different because there’s no way we could be able to afford the Four Seasons in Maui,” adding “So yeah, it would have to be The White Lotus: Kyoto or something.”
The White Lotus Season 2 Storyline
In an August 2021 press release, HBO confirmed that the upcoming season “leaves Hawaii behind and follows a different group of vacationers as they jet to another White Lotus property and settle in temporarily amongst its inhabitants.”
Earlier this year in November, Coolidge also said “They haven’t told me what the script is,” adding “But, I hope I have lots of romance and sex in this next one. I felt like I didn’t get enough of that in the first one.”
The actress also lauded the series adding it’s the “most popular” thing she’s ever done. “It didn’t matter where I was this year. It didn’t matter that I had a mask on,” continuing “I could be in a motorboat up in Maine going by another speedboat and someone would be like, ‘White Lotus.’ I mean, it was weird. Everyone saw it. Everyone saw that thing.”
