Attempts at damage control are being made by Ezra Miller. The Hollywood Reporter says the 29-year-old actor attended a meeting on the Warner Bros. property in Burbank, California, on Wednesday to discuss the status of their next DCEU entry The Flash, set to premiere in June 2023.
Miller apparently met with Warner Bros. film executives Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, as well as Miller’s CAA agent Scott Metzger, where he expressed his devotion to the franchise and expressed regret for bringing unfavourable publicity to the film. Crisis management PR specialist Gary Rosen recently told Sources that Warner Bros. is likely adopting a “wait and see” attitude toward the movie’s premiere, despite the fact that filming on the estimated $200 million DC project has already wrapped. “It’s a huge investment, and the last thing Warner Bros. wants to do is have this [movie] go away,” Rosen said.
“For this to go on the shelf would be an enormous loss. I would think they want this movie to come out. And since it’s not scheduled to come out until June 2023, there’s time.”
Miller has apologized for their recent disturbing behaviour and stated that they are seeking therapy for mental health difficulties, which is what brought about the meeting on Wednesday. “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said in a statement shared with PEOPLE via their rep last week.
“I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behaviour,” Miller added. “I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.” The PR expert said that in the wake of the Ezra Miller scandals, Warner Bros. is likely “playing wait-and-see” with “The Flash.”
Since 2020, when a video showed Miller choking a lady outside of a club in Iceland, they have been involved in a string of terrible crimes and scandals (no charges were filed in that incident). After two events in a karaoke bar in Hawaii in March, they pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct.
A 12-year-old and their family in Massachusetts filed a temporary harassment prevention order, while the Perks of Being a Wallflower star has also been accused of grooming an adolescent from the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota (the teen refuted the charges).
They have also been accused of hiding a mother who is 25 years old and her three young children on their farm in Vermont. In early August, Miller was charged with felony burglary for allegedly stealing alcohol from yet another Vermont residence in May.
Despite Miller’s persistent issues, Warner Bros. has pushed forward with the release of The Flash, his solo adventure in the DCEU as the lightning-fast superhero (aka Barry Allen). Meanwhile, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Shazam! The Fury of Gods have been delayed, while the studio cancelled the release of their nearly finished Batgirl movie earlier this month.
Miller has previously appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Suicide Squad (2016), and Justice League (2016) while wearing the iconic red outfit.
Miller has starred in two other big Warner Bros. franchises in addition to portraying the Flash, he played Credence Barebone in the Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and its two sequels, The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) and The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022). The Flash is set to debut on June 23, 2023.
