The very greatest news comes first: on August 21, House of the Dragon will make its debut on both HBO and HBO Max. King’s Landing, Storm’s End, Dragonstone, and the rest of the familiar Game of Thrones locales are going to be revisited, albeit in somewhat altered forms. Because it is set about 200 years before the original series, the Westeros of House of the Dragon will be both recognizable and utterly foreign.

House of the Dragon, which debuted on August 21, will air new episodes every Sunday at 9:00 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Max. The first season contains 10 episodes. According to the schedule, the season finale should air on October 23.

HBO is being secretive about many aspects of the future episodes, but we do know the following run times:
- One hour and six minutes for Episode 1.
- 52 minutes for episode 2
- 58 minutes for Episode 3
- One hour and three minutes for Episode 4.
House of the Dragon Plotline: What To Expect?
Fire & Blood, a work of fictional history written by George R. R. Martin, serves as the inspiration for House of the Dragon. In it, the ascent of the Targaryen dynasty to power in Westeros is chronicled. House of the Dragon focuses on the final third or so of the novel, which describes the terrible civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, in which Targaryen fought Targaryen and dragons fought in the sky. There won’t be any smooth continuity between events like there was on Game of Thrones, as there will be in this prequel series. In House of the Dragon, events begin around 200 years before the original series and continue for several decades until the dust settles.
House of the Dragon focuses on the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty. They will be at the pinnacle of their power at the beginning of the event. However, as King Viserys I Targaryen identifies his daughter Rhaenyra as his heir, numerous groups throughout the realm mobilize to either support the young princess or make preparations to see power passed on to someone else. This story will put into full effect the premise that “men would sooner put the kingdom to the torch than watch a woman ascend the Iron Throne,” as Rhaenyra and her childhood friend Alicent Hightower find themselves on opposite sides of the Dance of the Dragons.
“House of the Dragon” Cast and Crew
House of the Dragon, like Game of Thrones, will have a massive ensemble cast. Expect no heroes like Arya or Jon Snow to emerge from this tangled political maze, as nearly every figure will be corrupted. House of the Dragon will also feature a large number of Targaryens, as might be expected from its title.
Because of the numerous time jumps in House of the Dragon, we will get to know both younger and older versions of a handful of the main characters. The cast includes Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Milly Alcock as a younger version of the character, Olivia Cooke as Alistar Hightower, Emily Carey as a younger version of the character, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Paddy Considine as Viserys Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, Fabien Franke (Maria).
Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon Targaryen; Phoebe Campbell as Baela Targaryen; Harry Collett as Jacaerys Velaryon; Ryan Corr as Harwin “Breakbones” Strong; Jefferson Hall as Tyland and Jason Lannister; David Horovitch as Grand Maester Mellos; Will Johnson as Vaemond Velaryon; Graham McTavish as Harrold Westerling; Ewan Mitchell as Aemond (Laena Velaryon).
Creators George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal worked together on the novel House of the Dragon. Miguel Sapochnik, renowned for his work on Game of Thrones, is a co-showrunner alongside Condal. House of the Dragon will have music composed by Ramin Djawadi, who previously scored Game of Thrones and Westworld.

Since its announcement in 2020, several trailers for House of the Dragon have been released, with the most recent and comprehensive being shown at San Diego Comic-Con in late July 2022.
