Born as Lauren Keyana Palmer, she is a television personality, actress, and singer who gained prominence for her portrayal in comedy-drama productions. Palmer is also the recipient of 5 NAACP Image Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award.

Keke Palmer’s Childhood 

Palmer was born on the 26th of August, 1993, in Harvey, Illinois, and was brought up in Illinois. She is the child of Lawrence “Larry” Palmer and Sharon who was also professional actors prior to landing full-time jobs. She started singing in a church for the first time in a church though she got better exposure after she started performing in Chicago. 

How She Started her Career in the Industry?

In 2004, Keke made her film debut with “Barbershop 2: Back in Business,” where she portrayed Queen Latifah’s niece. The next year Atlanta Records signed her. She also made guest appearances in a number of projects including “Knights of the South Bronx,” “ER” and “Second Time Around.” 

The year 2006 brought her breakthrough when she landed the cast of the film “Akeelah and the Bee” which also brought her a Black Reel Award along with an NAACP Image Award as well. The same year she appeared in “Madea’s Family Reunion.” In 2007, she landed the cast of “Cleaner” and “Jump In!” She also appeared in television shows like “Just Jordan,” and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.”

In September 2007, her first album entitled “So Uncool” was released which reached number eighty-six on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The next year she starred in the Nickelodeon sitcom “True Jackson, VP,” becoming the fourth-highest paid child star on television. The same year she also starred in “The Longshots.” She has also voiced Aisha’s character in “Winx Club,” which brought her a nomination for NAACP Image Award.

Keke then appeared in the 2012’s “Joyful Noise,” and also produced as well as starred in a television film titled “Rags.” She dubbed the character of Peaches in “Ice Age: Continental Drift.” The same year she rolled out a song titled “You Got Me,” and a self-titled mixtape titled “Keke Palmer.”

Keke then appeared in 2013’s “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story,” where she portrayed Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. The following year she appeared in the horror movie titled “Animal,” and also landed the cast of Season 2 of “Masters of Sex,” playing the role of a nanny called Coral. She then served as the host of a talk show named “Just Keke,” which made her the youngest talk show host in TV history. Later, Island Records signed her. Keke landed the cast of the horror series “Scream Queens,” in which she played Zayday Williams (September 2015 to December 2016). She released her album titled “Waited to Exhale,” in June 2016.

She released her memoir titled “I Don’t Belong to You: Quiet the Noise and Find Your Voice” the next year. Later, Keke appeared in the second season of “Berlin Station.” She started co-hosting ABC’s “Strahan And Sarah,” as a guest in April 2019, and later in August she became the third permanent co-host of the show.

Keke then became a part of the third season of the television series “Scream” where she played Kym Johnson and later starred in the film “Hustlers.” She also starred in a web TV comedy series “Turnt Up with the Taylors,” and later she rolled out an extended play album named “Virgo Tendencies, Pt. 1.” She served as the host of the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards in August and later Entertainment One signed her for an overall deal.

Personal Life

In 2019, Keke started dating Styn who is a Dutch musician. She also shared her struggle with depression and anxiety in public.

Apart from her career as an actress, singer, and TV personality, she is also a philanthropist. Keke is involved with the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of the American charity Cool to Be Smart program and also support the Girl Scouts and Urban Farming. She has also served in the anti-bullying campaign of the YMCA and Saving Our Daughters.
