Jerry was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 2, 1948, and raised in Los Angeles, California. When he was 2, his first acting gig was in a departmental store commercial. Later, he also did an advertisement for PET Milk. He also has a sister and two brothers.

Jerry Mathers earned the majority of his net worth from his acting career. At the age of 4, he landed uncredited in the film titled “Son of Paleface.” Later, he landed on an episode of the television series “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.” Soon, he started appearing in films like “This is My Love,” 1955’s “The Seven Little Foys,” and “The Trouble with Harry,” where he portrayed a boy who comes across a deceased body close to his home. Mathers also appeared in the 1957’s “The Shadow on the Window.” 

The year 1957 turned out to be a turning point for his acting career as he landed the cast of “Leave it to Beaver,” where he portrayed the role of “Beaver” Cleaver. The sitcom ran for six seasons and Jerry was part of all 234 episodes. He was the first ever child actor to have a deal of a specific percentage of a TV program’s merchandising revenue.

Jerry took a break from acting for a while during his teenage years in order to focus on his education. He attended Notre Dame High School in California. While he was still attending school, Jerry joined the United States Air Force Reserve in 1966 and went on to serve following completion of his graduation. He eventually reached the position of Sergeant. In 1973, he attended the University of California at Berkeley and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy.

Comeback

After working as a real estate developer and a commercial bank loan officer, in 1978, he got back to acting. Mathers appeared in an episode of the TV series titled “Flying High,” and also landed the play “Boeing, Boeing”. After this, he traveled with Dow for “So Long, Stanley” and in 1981, he also served as a disc jockey in Anaheim, California. He also appeared in “The Girl, the Gold Watch and Dynamite.”

In 1983, he returned to reprise his character of the Beaver in the reunion film “Still the Beaver,” which had mostly original cast members. After its success, the next year, a new series was made around the Beaver, and subsequently, TBS picked it up. It was renamed “The New Leave it to Beaver,” and went on to run for 101 episodes until 1989. He also appeared in an episode of “The Love Boat” portraying the Beaver during that time.

After that, Jerry got married to Rhonda Gehring. The duo met during a tour in “So Long, Stanley.” The couple welcomed three children together named Noah, Mercedes, and Gretchen. Later, in 1997, they ended their marriage. In 2011, Mathers got married to his third wife named Teresa Modnick.
