In 2015, she tied the knot with actor Johnny Depp. When Heard publicly accused Depp of physical domestic abuse in May 2016, the divorce was widely publicized. Later, Depp would sue a British tabloid for defamation[3] for its coverage of the allegations and Heard for an op-ed published in her name in the Washington Post. An extensive trial was held to determine whether or not Heard had defamed Depp in her op-ed piece after she filed a countersuit. The jury found her guilty of defamation on three counts. Johnny Depp’s lawyer issued a statement on his client’s behalf, which resulted in a court awarding Heard $2 million and ordering her to pay $10.35 million. Heard’s domestic violence charges and following court trials sparked widespread criticism, particularly on social media.

Say what you will about Amber Heard (and what little I knew about her was distorted by the media as well), but the customer who spent nearly an hour browsing my store on Tuesday with her toddler baby girl and a few friends was a modest, polite, friendly, inquisitive self-effacing customer with high literary tastes.

In fact, until she produced her credit card, I was unaware that it was she. She also recently acquired a copy of my book The Bibliomaniacs and made a commitment to provide me with comments. The discovery of this trip was made after Heard was seen with her friend Eve Barlow, who was ejected from the courthouse for live tweeting from the front row.
