On Wednesday, Tesla’s CEO tweeted “As a ‘public person,’ standard to win a defamation lawsuit against a news org is almost impossible,” adding “They could say I’m Satan and the ‘source’ is their psychic!”

Lawyer for Sergey Brin’s wife Nicole Shanahan backs @elonmusk saying, “Make no mistake, any suggestion that Nicole had an affair with Elon Musk is not only an outright lie but also defamatory.”

Yet @wsj says “We are confident in our sourcing, and we stand by our reporting.”

The Tesla chief, who had pledged to do fewer tweets following that story stormed the internet, later considered that Nicole would take legal action against the media outlet. He took to Twitter writing “Nicole is not a public person, so [she] could win,” adding “I hope she sues them.”

Later, Elon Musk accused Michael Siconolfi, who is the WSJ’s investigations editor, for making “so many fake hit pieces.”

Musk then went on to reveal that he had a conversation with Sergey Brin on Tuesday, July 26 and “he says neither he nor anyone he knows has talked to WSJ.”

The Tesla Chief and Nicole Shanahan, both have declined the story through their attorney, which asserted that the duo was involved romantically, causing a “rupture” between Brin and Musk.

In a statement, Nicole’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman who is based in Los Angeles, said “Make no mistake, any suggestion that Nicole [Shanahan] had an affair with Elon Musk is not only an outright lie but also defamatory.”

According to the WSJ, the assumed affair was the reason behind the separation of Brin and Shanahan.

Musk reportedly also sent a picture of him and Brin at a recent party which was captured the day prior to when the story went viral. He said in a statement that the article that the Journal published claiming he bent down on his knees to apologize to Brin is misleading.

Further, Musk also denied any report of a relationship. He took to Twitter to share that he has not “had sex in ages.”

In spite of his denying the reports, the WSJ claims that the claim made in the article is true. In a statement, the Journal said “We are confident in our sourcing, and we stand by our reporting.”
