Condoleezza Rice: Early Life

Angelena Rice and John Wesley’s only child is Condoleezza Rice born on 14 November 1954, in Birmingham, Alabama. She completed her education from St. At Mary’s Academy, Rice was admitted to the University of Denver, then she learned with an International Politics course by Josef Korbel.

She got a master degree in political science from University of Notre Dame in 1975. In 1981 received the degree of Ph.D. She also research about her decent and in her book Democracy: Stories from the Long Road to Freedom, she writes, “My great-great-grandmother Zina on my mother’s side bore five children by different slave owners” and “My great-grandmother on my father’s side, Julia Head, carried the name of the slave owner and was so favored by him that he taught her to read.”

Condoleezza Rice: Career

From 1981 to 1987 she remained an assistant professor in Stanford University  and in 1993 when Gerrhard Casper met Rice he was impressed with her and appointed her as  the chief budget and academic officer, Stanford provost.

Casper said that, “most fortunate in persuading someone of Professor Rice’s exceptional talents and proven ability in critical situations to take on this task. Everything she has done, she has done well; I have every confidence that she will continue that record as provost.”

In 1989, Rice held the position of director under the presidency of George.w.Bush then came back to Stanford University. In the 2000 presidential election, she presented herself as forign policy advisor to help Georg W. Bush.

National Security Advisor

In 2000, Rice called back to serve as National Security Advisor and she became the first American woman held on this position in history. After that she was also called “warrior Princess”. In 2001 Rice set a meeting with CIA director Georg Tenet for discussing terrorist attacks.

In the 2003 invasion of Iraq she stated that “Why We Know Iraq Is Lying” in the New York Times and on CNN’s Wolf Blitzer interview she said,  “The problem here is that there will always be some uncertainty about how quickly he can acquire nuclear weapons. But we don’t want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud.”

In 20004 when Rice was appointed National Security Advisor, said that, “Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with the actual attacks on America, Saddam Hussein’s Iraq was a part of the Middle East that was festering and unstable, [and] was part of the circumstances that created the problem on September 11.

Secretary of State

In 2004 Bush  appointed Rice as Secretary of State. Although most senators are against her as her failure resulted in Iraq. After the Bush administration Rice joined the Council on Foregin Relations. In 2011 she appeared in NBC show 30Rock in the fifth season “Everything Sunny All the Time Always”, and in 2015 she published a book Henry Holt & Company.

On gun rights she stated that “Rice’s fondness for the Second Amendment began while watching her father sit on the porch with a gun, ready to defend his family against the Klan’s night riders.”

Rice’s view on same sex marriage are  “marriage is between a man and a woman … But perhaps we will decide that there needs to be some way for people to express their desire to live together through civil union.”

In 2017 she was against removal of Confederate monuments and memorials and argued that “If you forget your history, you’re likely to repeat it. … When you start wiping out your history, sanitising your history to make you feel better, it’s a bad thing.”

Condoleezza Rice: Personal Life

Rice dated Rick Upchurch, American football player in 1970. And after the break up she never married and had no children. She owned a home with Rand Bean and in this relationship Glenn Kessler wrote a book The Confidante: Condoleezza Rice and the Creation of the Bush Legacy (2007), he also stated that, “did not know if this meant there was something more to the relationship between the women beyond a friendship.”
