Carlos Santana was born on 20th July 1947 in Autlán de Navarro in Jalisco, Mexico and his full name is Carlos Augusto Santana Alves. His father was a Mexican folk musician and taught him to play the violin at the age of 5, and when he was eight years old also learned guitar.
