Marion Barber III was born on June 10, 1983, in Plymouth, Minnesota. He went to Wayzata High School in Plymouth and played sports like football, track, and baseball also. He then went to attend the University of Minnesota for his further studies and used to play football there for the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

During the start of his sophomore year, he came together with running back Laurence Maroney to build one of the best running back duos in college football and became the first teammates in Division I (NCAA) history to each rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons.

Personal Life

Marion was arrested by police and given a mental evaluation after an incident in 2014.

In 2019, police detained him again on two counts of criminal misconduct for damaging two cars whilst he was running. In April 2022, he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to probation of one year, 60 hours of community service, as well as a $2,000 penalty.

Career

Marion Barber had earned the majority of his net worth from his career. After dropping his studies, he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in round 4 with the 109th overall selection, of the 2005 NFL Draft. Initially, he performed well for the team and apparently moved from backup running back to starter.

In late 2010, he left the Dallas Cowboys and signed the Chicago Bears for a single season prior to retiring from the league in 2012.

Death

On June 1, 2022, Marion was found dead in his Frisco, Texas, apartment at the age of 38. 

A statement was released by The Dallas Cowboys after his demise writing “We are heartbroken by the tragic death of Marion Barber III,” adding “Marion was an old-school, hard-nosed football player who ran with the will to win every down.”
