Lightyear 2 Release Date: Buzz Lightyear is not only a toy but a lot more. Our favorite character from the film Toy Story, Buzz is back with the new Pixar film “Lightyear”. He is an actual Space Ranger now portrayed by Chri Evans. Now, we have a new edition of Buzz and Lightyear released on June 17, 2022. A lot of people are now curious to know if there will be Lightyear 2.
Lightyear sees poor Buzz unknowingly leave his crew in a hostile world full of aliens. Desperately putting efforts to find them home and finish the work and get his people home, Buzz allocates decades of testing with ships able to break the hyperspeed obstacle. Sadly, the faster Buzz goes the faster time passes him by and prior years have passed by.
Not that Buzz has time to concern himself when the fatal Zurg and his robot army invade. Here’s what we know so fast regarding the Lightyear 2.
Lightyear 2 Release Date
There is no official announcement about Lightyear 2 as of yet and it would be too soon considering Lightyear has released on June 17, 2022, so it would be actually too soon to say if we will have Lightyear 2 but it is not denied as well so stay tuned. We will update this section as there is information available about it.
A sequel is always dependent on the success of the film and if Lightyear performs well with audiences, then we can expect an official announcement about the sequel this year. Taking into consideration the production time Lightyear took to release which is around 7 years.
It seems like even if a sequel is announced this year, we cannot expect it to hit theatres before 2025 as that COVID-19 outbreak also impacted the production of every project, causing a delay in releasing of Lightyear.CIn 2020, the film was announced by Disney officially and then it took another two years of development time. Therefore, after taking a dig into all these aspects, Lightyear 2 release date is expected to be sometime in 2025.
Lightyear 2 Expected Storyline
In Lightyear, we saw Buzz being tasked with creating a new corp of Space Rangers, and his first hires were Izzy Hawthorne, Sox, Mo Morrison, and Darby Steel.CIn the end, this new bold team was prepared to embark on unknown adventures. Hence, a sequel could bring us the story where they will be seen on their next adventures.
There are a few drooping storyline hints from the link that could be addressed. Where did the other Buzz find the Zurg suit and the robot army?CDoes that signify that there is another Zurg in Buzz’s time? Why did no one come forward in search of Buzz and his crew? Did something dreadful happen to the Space Rangers?
In an interview, when director Angus McClane was asked whether he would like to make a sequel, he appeared to have something to share with us certainly about where he would take the character next saying “I’d be open to it… I think I know where he goes next.”
Lightyear 2 Cast
If Lightyear 2 happens, we can expect the majority of characters to return.

- Keke Palmer to voice the character of Izzy Hawthorne
- Peter Sohn to voice the character of Sox
- Taika Waititi to voice the character of Mo Morrison and
- Dale Soules to voice the character of Darby Steel
We may also see Isiah Whitlock Jr to return and Commander Burnside as well, Buzz’s new boss. We may not see James Brolin, who voiced Zurg at the end of Lightyear, we saw his ship blowing up apparently killing the tyrant, it’s less likely that we will be seeing him again. Though these are just speculations and confirmation is awaited.
