The Princess Diaries is an American comedy film directed by Garry Marshall and picked for production by Walt Disney Pictures and written by Gina Wendkos. The film is adapted from the young adult novel of the same title written by Meg Cabot.
The film revolves around Mia Thermopolis (portrayed by Anne Hathaway) who is a reserved American teenager and gets to know she is heir to the throne of a European empire.
Under the guidance of her estranged grandmother (portrayed by Julie Andrews), the empire’s ruling queen, Mia has to decide whether to claim the throne which she has inherited or relinquish her title permanently.
The first installment of The Princess Diaries was released On August 3, 2001, and became a huge commercial success with earnings of more than $165 million across the globe the film received a mixed reception.
The follow-up of the film: The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, kicked off in 2004 and was also a hit.
