Born David Madison Cawthorn, is an American politician who is serving as the United States representative for North Carolina’s 11th congressional district since 2021.

In this article, we will cover Madison Cawthorn’s net worth, early and personal life, and many more. So, read the full article below.

Madison Cawthorn’s Net Worth

According to several estimates, it has been anticipated that Madison Cawthorn has a Net Worth of $49 Million as of 2022. He earns $371,000 as salary and $800,000 annually. He became the youngest Republican elected to the House of Representatives succeeding Republican Mark Meadows.

Early Life

Madison Cawthorn was born in Asheville, North Carolina on August 1, 1995. He is the child of Priscilla and Roger Cawthorn. Cawthorn did homeschooling in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and when he was in high school, he used to play football. He also worked at a Chick-fil-A restaurant during his teenage years.

When he was 18, Madison was severely injured when he was coming back from a spring-break trip to Florida. He was riding as a passenger in a BMW X3 SUV near Daytona Beach, Florida, while his friend Bradley Ledford had fallen asleep at the wheel.

The car collided with a concrete barrier when Cawthorn’s feet were on the dashboard. During a 2017 speech, he said that his friend, Ledford left him “to die in a fiery tomb” and in 2021, Ledford disputed this openly stating that he drew out Cawthorn from the wreck once he came out of the vehicle.

In their depositions, Cawthorn said that he had “no memory from the accident”, whereas Ledford stated that he had aided in saving an unconscious Cawthorn.

Personal Life

In a December 2020 civil ceremony, Cawthorn tied the knot with Cristina Cawthorn, a college student, and competitive CrossFit athlete. Sadly, just after a year of their marriage, Cawthorn made the announcement in December 2021 that they were getting divorced.

Professional Career

Madison served as a staff assistant in Representative Mark Meadows’s district office from January 2015 to August 2016. In a statement, he told the Asheville Citizen-Times that he used to work there “full-time”, though it was a part-time role.

He owns SPQR Holdings, LLC, a real estate investment firm in Hendersonville that began in August 2019 and didn’t report any earnings; Madison is its only employee.

The acronym SPQR was usually utilized as the Roman Empire symbol and stands for Senātus Populusque Rōmānus. The symbol has seen some far-right usage, though SPQR has not been included by the Anti-Defamation League in its hate symbol database, and Mark Pitcavage from the organization has stated it is utilized “just as much or more often by nonextremists than extremists”.

Cawthorn has stated that he utilized the initials for his company name only because it is “a term for Rome” and that “SPQR is a warning to my generation from the ages against tyranny and authoritarianism.”

In the March 2020 Republican primary for North Carolina’s 11th congressional district, he finished second after Lynda Bennett, who received support both from the former President Donald Trump and Cawthorn’s former mentor, Meadows, who had become White House Chief of Staff.

Bennett didn’t get the required 30% of the vote to bypass a runoff and the June runoff was won by Cawthorn and many local leaders supported him. Mark Walker, the vice-chairman of the House Republican Conference also came in his support.

Cawthorn’s campaign developed an attack website during his election bid which slammed journalist Tom Fiedler, who had made investigative articles over Cawthorn and wrote favorable articles for his opponent.

The journalist was accused of leaving academia “to work for non-white males, like Cory Booker, who aims to ruin white males running for office.” Later, the statement was modified claiming Fiedler is “an unapologetic defender of left-wing identity politics.”

A statement was issued by Cawthorn stating he opined “to condemn” such political opinion as being “dangerous and divisive” and claimed that he “condemned racism and identity politics throughout the campaign.”

Cawthorn’s apology was noticed by Ben Mathis-Lilley where it mentioned: “convolutedly expressed regret for ‘having unfairly implied I was criticizing Cory Booker,’ which is notable in that it is not an apology for attacking the journalist in question, Tom Fiedler, as a traitor to his race.”

Cawthorn won in the November general election defeating Democratic nominee Moe Davis and on January 3, 2021, he took office and he even Tweeted “cry more, lib” after his victory.

Madison declared his intention to run for a second term in the new 13th congressional district for the first time in November 2021, which includes Cleveland County and other counties west of Charlotte.

Congress members aren’t required to reside in the district they represent rather they just need to be in the same state; Madison is enlisted to vote in the new 14th district. He took to Twitter writing that he was running in the 13th district as then “another establishment, go-along-to-get-along Republican would prevail there.”

As per the Asheville Citizen-Times, Cawthorn’s opponent in his current district, along with former supporters, “appears to provide a political rationale” for his decision.

In February, following approval of new maps, Madison filed to run again in the 11th District.

Madison was defeated by Republican primary opponent Chuck Edwards on May 17, 2022.

Sexual Assault Allegations

During Cawthorn’s campaign for Congress in August 2020, many women alleged him of sexually violent behavior, misconduct, and assault.

Katrina Krulikas revealed an incident when she was 17 and Madison was 19, when he forced her to sit on his lap and tried to kiss her twice without consent.

The accusations weren’t denied by Madison though he stated “I did try and kiss her, just very normal, just in a flirtatious way”, then added “If I did make her feel unsafe, I feel bad”, however, he questioned her accusation timing. His campaign described her accusations as politically provoked, which was denied by Krulikas.

Following allegations made by Krulikas, 3 other women also accused Madison of sexual misconduct along with forced grabbing and kissing. A woman stated Madison called her “just a little blonde, slutty American girl” when she declined to involve sexually with him.

In October 2020, an open letter was issued by a panel of Patrick Henry College alumni alleging Madison of “sexually predatory behavior” when he was a student there for a little more than one semester, and also of sabotage and lying.

Originally, the letter was signed by 10 signatories though the count later raised to over 150 alumni just within a week. Madison said that majority of the signers didn’t know him in person and a response letter of support was published by his campaign for him signed by 6 alumni, among whom, 2 work for his campaign.

His response letter implied backing from ex-President of Patrick Henry College, Michael Farris who denied the support letter and requested to not associate him with it.

According to a BuzzFeed News investigation in February 2021, twenty people said that Madison had behaved inappropriately with his female classmates while he was in college; the reporters talked to 4 women who said he assaulted them and it was found that he used to recklessly drive women in his car quite often to remote areas off-campus while asking them sexual questions. Reportedly, he called these journeys “fun drives”.
