Eugenio Derbez was born on September 2, 1961, in Mexico City, Mexico. His father was a publicist whereas his mother was an actress. 

Personal Life

Eugenio Derbez stays in Los Angeles and is married to Alessandra Rosaldo. The couple has four children together: comedian actress Aislinn Derbez, actor Jose Eduardo Derbez, actor and singer Vadhir Derbez, and Aitana Derbez.

Their family starred together in the documentary comedy TV series titled De Viaje con Los Derbez, alongside Aislinn’s ex-husband Mauricio Ochmann and their daughter Kailani.

Career

Derbez developed his passion for acting when he was young. When he was 12, he booked his first roles as extras in soap operas.

Later, he attended the Mexican Film Institute and the Centro de Educacion Artistica and made his television debut with the comedy television series titled Cachún Cachún Ra Ra!. In 1997, he made his directorial debut with a Mexican TV series titled No Tengo Madre.

Derbez and Florinda Meza co-created a 2002 Tv series called XHDRBZ, which he also produced. In the same year, he served as co-creator, and co-director, and appeared in the family TV series called La Familia P. Luche, which gave him further recognition within the Mexican and Latin communities. 

During the early 2010s, he started appearing in several American movies and sitcoms like Girl in Progress, Rob!, Jack and Jill, and Miracles from Heaven. In addition to featuring in live-action roles, he has also been part of anime movies such as The Book of Life and The Angry Birds Movie 2.

He lent his voice for the Spanish versions of several characters in the Spanish dubbed version of American movies like 2000’s Dalmatians, 1998’s Dr. Dolittle, 2001’s Dr. Dolittle 2, 1998’s Mulan, 2004’s Mulan 2, the Shrek franchise, 2018’s The Grinch, 2016’s The Secret Life of Pets, 2008’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army, and 2019’s The Secret Life of Pets 2.

His 2013 feature film titled “Instructions Not Included” in which he served as director, co-writer, and also starred as the most successful Spanish-language movie in the United States and across the world.

It broke many box-office records and grossed over $100 million globally. He further starred in the Lionsgate/ Pantelion 2017 movie titled “How to Be a Latin Lover” along with Salma Hayek and Kristen Bell and in the 2019 Paramount movie titled “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.”

Derbez was also featured in the 2021 Apple TV plus movie titled CODA, which brought him the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture including the remainder of the cast.
