Tyron Woodley was born in April 1982 in Ferguson, Missouri. Woodley was a two-time state wrestling finalist in high school, going 48-0 and winning a state championship at McCluer High School. He earned a degree in wrestling from the University of Missouri.
As an amateur, Woodley won his first fight in 20 seconds and was 7-0 in amateur matches. He auditioned for The Ultimate Fighter’s ninth season but was cut before the program began.
