In 2018, the sudden demise of American Rapper Mac Miller emerged as a shock for all his fans and numerous people and was also a huge loss for the hip-hop world.
Malcolm James McCormick, professionally popular as Mac Miller succumbed to death of an accidental overdose of drugs, and consequently, the dealer who supplied drugs to him is sentenced to imprisonment for more than ten years.
Mac Miller’s Death Caused Due to Drug Overdose
Before his demise, Mac Miller gave us many hit tracks such as “Frick Park Market” and “The Way” in which he collaborated with Ariana Grande and the songs brought him fame. In 2018, when he passed away all of a sudden, his family and friends were left behind grieving along with his millions of fans.
In 2022, his mom, Karen Meyers, issued a statement to the court that mentioned just how much the death of her son meant to her. According to reports, the statement reads: “My life went dark the moment Malcolm left his world,” adding further “Malcolm was my person, more than a son.
We had a bond and kinship that was deep and special and irreplaceable. We spoke nearly every day about everything — his life, plans, music, dreams.”
Miller’s mother said that her son had such a laugh that was “infectious and bright.” Their affection for each other was “unparalleled,” and she said that the music and voice of her son “spoke to many people all over the world.”
She firmly stated “He would never knowingly take a pill with fentanyl, ever,” adding further “He wanted to live and was excited about the future. The hole in my heart will always be there.”
The drug dealer who sold drugs to Mac Miller was sentenced to imprisonment of more than a decade.
In September 2018, Miller lost his life, and after a year of his demise, three men were taken into custody during an investigation into his demise in September 2019.
He was sold false oxycodone pills that had fentanyl just two days prior to his demise, which Ryan Reavis had supplied. Reavis along with two other men were accused on charges of conspiracy and supply of drugs that led to their demise.
Reavis was sentenced to imprisonment of 131 months in April 2022 for his contribution to Miller’s demise. Earlier, Reavis appealed for a five-year sentence since he said that he was not more than a middleman in the tragic event and also that he was not aware of the fact that pills were laced.
Ahead of when he was sentenced, Reavis said in the court that he had no knowledge about the pills and that the pills that he supplied resulted in Miller’s death till he was taken into custody in Arizona after a year of Miller’s demise in September 2019.
Reavis told the court “This is not just a regular drug case. Somebody died, and a family is never going to get their son back,” adding further “My family would be wrecked if it was me.
They’d never be all right, never truly get over it. I think about that all the time. And I know that whatever happens today, I’m the lucky one because my family is here and I’m here and I’ll be with them again.”
He added “I feel terrible. This is not who I am,” he continued. “My perspective has changed. My heart has changed.”
Mac Miller’s Life Following His Demise
Miller’s soul has remained to live on following his demise. His estate issued Circles, a posthumous album in January 2020 that had material he recorded ahead of his demise.
His ex-girlfriend, Ariana Grande notoriously shouted him out in her popular 2018 single titled “thank u, next.” She sang “Wish I could say ‘thank you to Malcolm, ’cause he was an angel.”
