Based on Justin Cronin’s novels, the Passage will not return to Fox for a second season. The news is hardly surprising. As we observed in yesterday’s report about Fox’s decision to take up four new drama series, with a fifth in the works, the movie did not auger well for the network’s bubble dramas Star, Lethal Weapon, and The Passage, which were all canceled today.
The comedy, which stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar and is produced by Liz Heldens, Matt Reeves, Scott Free, and 20th Century Fox Television, kicked out on January 12 with its season debut.
It earned a 1.3 rating in the adults 18-49 category and 5.218 million viewers (live+same day), eclipsing The Resident’s 1.1 rating and 5.522 million viewers (live+same day). However, the serialized drama’s ratings soon fell, with the two-hour March 11 season finale setting new lows in the demo (0.7) and total viewers (3.122M).
The Passage, written by Heldens, was an epic, character-driven thriller about a secret government medical facility experimenting with a hazardous virus that had the potential to heal all sicknesses or bring the human race to an end.
The series followed Amy Bellafonte (Saniyya Sidney), a ten-year-old girl chosen as a test subject for this experiment, and Brad Wolgast (Gosselaar), the federal agent who became a surrogate father in an attempt to protect her.
