How I Met Your Father is an American television sitcom created by Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker. The series is a spin-off to CBS’s “How I Met Your Mother” and stars Hilary Duff, Francia Raisa, Suraj Sharma, Christopher Lowell, Tien Tran, Tom Ainsley, and Kim Cattrall.

The first season of the series aired from January 18, 2022, to March 15, 2022, on Hulu with a total of ten episodes. It couldn’t perform too well and gathered mixed reviews from critics and audiences as well. It has an IMDB rating of 5.4 out of 10 and 38 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘How I Met Your Father’ Season 2 Premiere Date

Even before dropping the last episode of the series, Hulu made the official announcement about the renewal of the series for its second season on February 15, 2022, and also confirmed that the upcoming season would have twenty episodes.

As of now, nothing has been shared about the premiere date of the upcoming season but we can expect it to kick off in late 2022 or early 2023. 

In an interview with TVLine, Aptaker and Berger indicated when fans can expect to see the upcoming season of How I Met Your Father. Berger stated Hulu “wants us back on the service sooner than later.”

While Aptaker said that they are “hoping to be back in production” for the second season of the series “this summer.

As soon as we’re done [with This Is Us Season 6, where they act as co-showrunners along with Dan Fogelman], we’re diving back into [How I Met your Father] with our writers. And a show like this moves really fast.”

There is nothing shared yet about who can be returned to reprise their roles but we can expect the lead cast to get back together for another season.

The emergence of Cobie Smulders for her role as Robin Scherbatsky in the last episode of the series came as a surprise for fans. And as indicated by Aptaker and Berger, there will be more cameos in the upcoming season of the series.

In an interview, Aptaker said “I don’t think [the How I Met Your Mother characters] always necessarily have to come back to teach a lesson or impart wisdom,” adding further “What worked really well about Robin’s return is that she was essential to the story and was key in Sophie’s decision making and what happened next in Sophie’s life.”

He further added that “So I think whenever we would bring someone back from the original, the hope would be that they would play an essential role in our story and not just feel like they’re there to say ‘hey’ and see what whoever is up to.”

Talking about who might join the upcoming season, co-creator Isaac Aptaker told TVLine: “I don’t think [How I Met Your Mother characters] always necessarily have to come back to teach a lesson or impart wisdom,” adding “What worked really well about Robin’s return is that she was essential to the story and was key in Sophie’s decision making and what happened next in Sophie’s life.”

Though we can expect the forthcoming season of ‘How I Met Your Father’ to start off where the first season left us, we would probably see Sophie date around NYC whilst making attempts to find The One.
