DWTS will be the first live series to air solely through Disney Plus. The show is hugely popular among celebrities and has been on the air for years on ABC.
ABC, Disney’s broadcast television network, ran the series for 30 seasons over 16 years. According to Disney, the series will premiere in the United States and Canada in the fall with a two-season exclusive on Disney Plus. BBC Studios’ production arm in Los Angeles will film the show in front of a live audience.
The specifics of Disney+’s rights to previous seasons are unknown. Heather Levine, a Disney spokesperson, told The Verge that the business will have more information on Dancing With the Stars in the future, including whether or not the show will appear on broadcast or whether it would be available on Disney Plus.

Moving a major live television series from ABC to Disney Plus demonstrates the company’s dedication to increasing the number of subscribers to its prestigious streaming service.

This choice is brave given the show’s enormous popularity on ABC. According to ABC, Dancing With the Stars will be one of the top five unscripted series for adults 18 to 49 in the fall of 2021.

On April 8, Deadline broke the news that Dancing With the Stars had been renewed for two more seasons, but that it will no longer be broadcast on ABC. To be clear, this does not portend the end of the Mirrorball Trophy series. Instead, Disney+ will broadcast fresh episodes of Dancing With the Stars live on Monday nights starting in the fall.
