The Ark Release Date Status Confirmed for 2023?

From Independence Day, writer-producer Dean Devlin and his Electric Entertainment, Syfy, have given The Ark a 12-episode straight-to-series order.

Jonathan Glassner, who wrote and produced Stargate SG-1, will serve as co-showrunner and executive producer with Devlin.

The series will begin production in March at Belgrade’s PFI Studios, with a launch date to be determined. The casting process will begin shortly. International rights are being sold by Devlin’s Electric Entertainment International Sales subsidiary.

The Ark is set 100 years in the future, at a time when planetary colonization missions have begun as a need to ensure the human race’s existence.

The first of these voyages, aboard the Ark One spaceship, experiences a cataclysmic catastrophe that results in widespread damage and loss of life.

With little than a year remaining until they reach their target planet, a shortage of life-sustaining supplies, and the death of their captain, the surviving crew must become the finest versions of themselves to stay on track and live.

“The Ark is an ideal match for Syfy audiences. We’re certain fans will connect with Dean Devlin’s heart-pounding narrative from one of the most successful and acclaimed sci-fi writers working today,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCU Entertainment, and Streaming.

“With the recent success of Resident Alien and Chucky, the network has attracted some of television’s most inventive storytellers.”

Devlin and Glassner will executive produce alongside Electric Entertainment’s Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson. Additionally, Jonathan English of Balkanic Media will produce.

Devlin and Glassner worked together on The Outpost, which ran on the CW for four seasons. They were both executive producers, and Devlin’s Electric Entertainment handled worldwide distribution.

The Outpost and The Ark follow a commercial model pioneered by Devlin with his TNT series Leverage. His Electric Entertainment firm acts as a studio, partnering with a linear US network while holding all other rights and selling the episodes overseas.

“I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Syfy once again and can’t imagine a greater collaborator than Jonathan Glassner to bring this series to life,” Devlin added.
