News About Daniel Radcliffe

Early Life

Radcliffe was born on 23 July 1989 in Hammersmith, London, England. He is the single child of Alan George Radcliffe, a literary agent, and Marcia Jeannine Gresham.

He explored both sides of his family history in the 2019 BBC genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are? Where his parents were portrayed as children. His mother has been part of BBC productions as a casting agent like The Inspector Lynley Mysteries.

He attended three independent schools for boys in London: Redcliffe School, Sussex House School, and the City of London School.

After the first Harry Potter film came out, going to school became tough for him since some fellow mates turned hostile, however, he mentions that they were just attempting to “have a crack at the kid that plays Harry Potter” instead of acting out of envy. Since his acting career started to make his schedule really hectic, he kept his education on through on-set tutors.

He has confessed to not being a very bright student, thinking school futile and considering the work “really difficult”. He got A grades in the three AS level exams that he took in 2006, but was determined to have a break from studies and didn’t go to university.

One of the reasons behind his decision to halt education as he had already discovered his aspiration of becoming an actor and screenwriter, and also that it would be tough for him to take a usual college experience.

Personal Life

Radcliffe divides his time between homes in London and Manhattan, New York City. Since 2012, he has been in a relationship with American actress Erin Darke. The duo met on the set of Kill Your Darlings.

In 2008, he confirmed that he has a mild form of the neurological disorder dyspraxia, which at times, halts him from performing even simple activities like writing or tying his shoelaces. He stated that “I was having a hard time at school, in terms of being crap at everything, with no discernible talent.”

He expressed his love for rap music and accepted having “an obsession with memorizing complicated, lyrically intricate and fast songs”. In 2014, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he rapped the 1999 Blackalicious song “Alphabet Aerobics.”

He has stated that his family is “Christmas tree Jews” and added “I’m an atheist, but I’m very proud of being Jewish. It means I have a good work ethic, and you get Jewish humor and you’re allowed to tell Jewish jokes.
