According to Celebrity Net Worth, Scarlett Johansson has an estimated net worth of $165 million. For more than a decade, she has been one of the most popular and also among the highest-paid actresses in the world.

She has been part of many high-grossing films. Reportedly, she charges up to $20 million for each film, and apart from that, she earns around $10 million to $20 million from other collaborations.

Early Life

Scarlett Johansson was born in Manhattan, New York City on 22 November 1984. Her mother is Melanie Sloan who has worked as a producer whereas her father is Karsten Olaf Johansson, an architect.

Ejner Johansson was her paternal grandfather and an art historian, film director as well as screenwriter. She has four siblings: an elder sister and brother named Vanessa, and Adrian respectively; a twin brother, Hunter. She also has an older half-brother from the first marriage of her father.  Johansson has dual American and Danish citizenship. 

Johansson went to attend PS 41, an elementary school in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. When she was 13, her parents divorced. She had a close relationship with her maternal grandmother named Dorothy Sloan and they used to spend time together she even considered Dorothy as her best friend.

Since he was too young, she wanted to pursue a career in acting. She was especially interested in musical theater and jazz hands. She also received training in tap dance and says that her parents always supported her decisions about her career. 

When she was 7, a talent agent signed one of her brothers rather than and she was shattered by that but later she determined to be an actress anyway.

She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and started giving auditions for commercials, but she lost her interest quite soon, she said in an interview “I didn’t want to promote Wonder Bread.”

Then, she started focusing only on films and theater and made her first appearance on stage alongside Ethan Hawke, in the Off-Broadway play titled “Sophistry”, and she had two lines in it. During this time, she started studying at Professional Children’s School (PCS), a private educational institution in Manhattan for prospective child actors.

Personal Life

Whilst going to PCS, Johansson was dating her classmate Jack Antonoff in 2001 and broke up in 2002. Later, she was in a relationship with her Black Dahlia co-star Josh Hartnett for a period of nearly two years until 2006.

The reason for the split that Hartnett stated was their packed schedules due to which they were apart. In 2007, she was having an affair with Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds.

In May 2008, the couple announced their engagement and married in September 2008 on Vancouver Island. In December 2010, the couple split and the following year they divorced.

She started dating Frenchman Romain Dauriac, the owner of an ad agency in November 2012. The pair got engaged in September of the next year. The couple split their time between New York City and Paris.

In 2014, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter. In October of the same year, the couple got married in Philipsburg, Montana. But in the middle of 2016, they separated, and in September 2017, they divorced.

In May 2017, she started dating Colin Jost who is Saturday Night Live co-head writer and Weekend Update co-host. The couple became engaged in May 2019 and got married in October 2020, at their New York home. In August 2021, they welcomed their son. Currently, she stays in New York City and Los Angeles.

Her nude pictures were hacked from her cell phone and leaked online in September 2011. She stated that she had sent those photographs to her ex-husband, Ryan Reynolds, three years earlier.

After an FBI investigation, the hacker was taken into custody and pleaded guilty. The hacker was sentenced to imprisonment of ten years.

She won a legal battle against French publisher JC Lattès in 2014, for defamatory statements with regard to her relationships in the novel titled The First Thing We Look At written by Grégoire Delacourt. She was given compensation of $3,400; she had asked for $68,000.

She has slammed the media for advancing an image that leads to unhealthy diets and eating problems amongst women. Johansson penned in an essay for The Huffington Post, she convinced people to keep a healthy body.

For the March 2006 cover of Vanity Fair, she posed nude with actress Keira Knightley and fashion designer Tom Ford who was clothed fully and hopped in at the last minute on the shoot day as Rachel McAdams’ replacement after she walked away.

The picture led to controversy since some considered it represented women are compelled to show off their sexuality more frequently as compared to men.

In 1994, she debuted in the film titled “North” in which she featured as John Ritter’s daughter. Later, she appeared in small roles including portraying the daughter of Sean Connery and Kate Capshaw’s characters in the 1995 film “Just Cause”, and playing an art student in the 1996 film titled “If Lucy Fell”.

She landed her first main role in the 1996 film titled “Manny & Lo” where she portrayed Amanda and was also nominated for her performance for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Female. She went on to star in films like 1997’s “Fall” and “Home Alone 3”; 1999’s “My Brother the Pig” and 2001’s “The Man Who Wasn’t There.”

She started getting extensive attention following her role in the 1998 film titled “The Horse Whisperer” and she also received a nomination for the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Actress.

The year 2001 brought her big breakthrough with the black comedy film titled “Ghost World.” In spite of the fact that the film couldn’t succeed at the box office, her performance was appreciated widely.
