According to Celebrity Net Worth, Johnny Depp has an estimated net worth of $150 million. His several blockbuster films have earned more than $3.4 billion in the United States and $8.7 billion at the box office across the world.

He is one of the highest-paid actors in the world. During the period between 2003 and 2016, his business managers disclosed in a lawsuit that Johnny earned an amount of $650 million as salaries, backend profits, and other collaborations.

And in the same lawsuit, it was also revealed that many times he was near to getting insolvent as a result of his incredibly lavish lifestyle. When his career was at its peak, he used to spend nearly $2 million per month just for his lifestyle.

Early Life

Johnny Depp was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on 9 June 1963. His mother was Betty Sue Palmer who used to work as a waitress and his father was John Christopher Depp, a civil engineer.

When he was a child, his family relocated quite often and apparently settled in Miramar, Florida in 1970. In 1978, when he was 15, his parents divorced 15, and later, his mother got married to Robert Palmer, whom he considered his inspiration.

At the age of 12, his mother gifted him a guitar and he started to play in many bands. In 1979, at the age of 16, he dropped out of Miramar High School to pursue his career in rock music.

After two weeks, he tried to return to school but the principal advised him to pursue his dream of becoming a musician. He started to play guitar in a band named The Kids in 1980.

Following the achieved modest local success in Florida, the band relocated to Los Angeles in quest of a record pact and changed their name to Six Gun Method. Apart from the band, Depp has also worked many other odd jobs like telemarketing.

He got married to make-up artist Lori Anne Allison in December 1983. In 1984, the duo separated before signing a record pact and later he collaborated with the band titled Rock City Angels.

He served as co-writer for their song titled “Mary”, which featured on their debut Geffen Records album entitled Young Man’s Blues. In 1985, Depp and Allison divorced.

Personal Life

After separation from Lori Anne Allison in 1985, he was engaged to actresses Jennifer Grey and Sherilyn Fenn during the late 1980s, prior to when he proposed in 1990 to Winona Ryder, his Edward Scissorhands co-star, and he even tattooed “WINONA FOREVER” over his right arm.

During the period between 1994 and 1997, he was dating English model Kate Moss. After splitting from Moss, he was in a relationship with Vanessa Paradis, a French actress, and singer. The duo met in 1998 while shooting The Ninth Gate in France.

The couple has 2 children together, a daughter named Lily-Rose Melody Depp and a son named John Christopher “Jack” Depp III.

He said that having kids has given him a “real foundation, a real strong place to stand in life, in work, in everything. …You cannot plan the kind of deep love that results in children. Fatherhood was not a conscious decision.

After splitting with Vanessa Paradis, he met actress Amber Heard while filming for the 2011 film The Rum Diary and the duo started dating. In February 2015, the couple got married in a civil ceremony, and the following year, Heard filed for divorce and gathered a temporary restraining order against him.

In her court statements, she said that throughout their relationship, he had abused her both verbally and physically and he did so generally under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

All the claims were denied by Depp who said that she was “attempting to secure a premature financial resolution”. In 2017, their divorce was finalized and Heard received $7 million as a settlement from Depp, which she promised to donate.

Depp has suffered from alcohol addiction throughout his life. He himself confirmed that he started consuming drugs when he was 11, by having his mother’s “nerve pills” and when he was 12, he began smoking and by the time he turned 14, he had consumed “every kind of drugs there were”.

He announced in 2013 that he had quit alcohol, further continuing that he “pretty much got everything [he] could get out of it”; he also added, “I investigated wine and spirits thoroughly, and they certainly investigated me as well, and we found out that we got along beautifully, but maybe too well.”

As per the statement of his then-wife, actress Amber Heard, during their relationship between 2013–2016, he “plunged into the depths of paranoia and violence after binging on drugs and alcohol”.

In a 2018 Rolling Stone profile of Depp, journalist Stephen Rodrick penned that he had consumed hashish while he was present and explained him as “alternately hilarious, sly and incoherent”; upon this, Depp also stated that the accusation that his then-business managers made that he had spent $30,000 monthly on wine was “insulting” as he had spent “far more” than that specified amount.

During his 2020 libel trial, he acknowledged having been addicted to Roxicodone and alcohol and also used other substances like MDMA and cocaine when he was in a relationship with Heard.

Depp made his debut in the film with the 1984 horror film titled “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” He also appeared on other projects as well prior to getting his breakthrough role in the Fox television series titled “21 Jump Street,” in which he, reportedly, received as much as $45,000 each episode.

“21 Jump Street ” made way for Depp in the industry and he gained recognition for his performance. He portrayed the lead character in Tim Burton’s 1990 film titled “Edward Scissorhands,” which became a critical and commercial success.

His role marked him among top Hollywood actors, and also started his long relationship with Burton.
