Early Life

Pattinson was born in London on May 13, 1986. He is the youngest child of Richard Pattinson and Clare. His mother was a scout at a modeling agency, whereas his father was a vintage car dealer.

He was raised in a small home in Barnes together with his two elder sisters named Elizabeth and Victoria. When he was 4, he began taking guitar and piano lessons.

Pattinson went to attend Tower House School, and when he was 12, he was banished for stealing adult magazines at a post office shop and later selling them to his fellow male classmates.

He completed his schooling at The Harrodian School. He used to work as a photo model for British fashion brands and magazines during his teenage years so that he could make more pocket money eventually he learned about his love for cinema and used to count Jack Nicholson, Jean-Paul Belmondo, and Marlon Brando amongst his acting idols.

During his late teens and early twenties, he performed acoustic guitar gigs at open mic nights in pubs across London where he used to sing his own written songs either solo under the stage name Bobby Dupea, or alongside his band Bad Girls.

He thought about becoming a musician or attending university to learn speech-writing, but never considered pursuing acting as a career; in fact, in school, his teacher suggested that he should not join the drama club as she believed he wasn’t fit for the creative arts.

At the age of 13, he joined the local amateur theatre club named Barnes Theatre Company following his father who encouraged him to go as he was pretty shy. When he was 15, he gave an audition for the play Guys and Dolls after he worked backstage for two years, and he actually got his first opportunity with the role of a Cuban dancer with no lines.

In the next play Our Town, he landed the lead role of George Gibbs and a talent agent who was present in the audience spotted him and started to look for professional roles. Furthermore, he also featured in the plays titled Anything Goes, Macbeth, and Tess of the d’Urbervilles.

He had intended to attend university, but he just could not as the filming for the 2005 film Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire came off schedule. He shared a flat in London’s Soho with fellow actor and friend Tom Sturridge.

Personal Life

Pattinson is unwilling to talk about his personal life publicly and has articulated displeasure to the paparazzi industry and tabloid journalism. He spoke about going through anxiety in 2017 which started during his early years in the public eye.

During the coronavirus pandemic in September 2020, he tested positive for coronavirus reportedly which led to the halting of filming for The Batman only three days later it recommenced.

Whilst Warner Bros. refused to remark on the person’s identity who had caught the coronavirus, several sources having knowledge about the production had said that the person was Pattinson.

In the middle of 2009, he was linked to his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart romantically. Later, Stewart was pictured with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, disclosing a relationship in July 2012 and the day when the photos were rolled out, Sanders, who was 19 years elder to Stewart and also married during that time and Stewart, both of them issued a public apology for the relationship.

The couple broke up after that though they resolved their differences in October 2012. But ultimately, in May 2013, the couple split.

In September 2014, Pattinson started to date singer-songwriter FKA Twigs. The pair were engaged but in 2017, they separated. The split would lead Twigs to create her 2019 sophomore studio album entitled Magdalene.

He has done small roles during his early career that includes the films like “Vanity Fair” and “Ring Of The Nibelungs.” Sadly, all his scenes were cut prior to production being completed.

He portrayed Cedric Diggory in 2005 in the movie titled “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”  Times named Pattinson as British Star of Tomorrow in 2005 for his role in the movie and he also learned how to scuba dive for his role as Cedric Diggory.

He is popular for playing the role of the vampire “Edward Cullen” in the “Twilight” film franchise, which is inspired by the best-selling book series written by author Stephenie Meyer. Pattinson rose to fame overnight with that role.

His excellent performance in The Twilight Saga brought him two Empire Awards nominations and he received 11 MTV Movie Awards, 2 People’s Choice Awards with many other awards and nominations along with receiving 2009’s Hollywood Film Award for New Hollywood by Hollywood Film Festival.

In 2014, for his performances in The Rover and Maps to the Stars, he was nominated for Australian Academy Awards (AACTA) and Canadian Screen Awards respectively. His performance in the 2015 film titled “Life” brought him the Hollywood Rising Star Award at Deauville American Film Festival 2015.

He earned a top award at the closing of the 53rd edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July 2018.
