Lisa Manobal, also known as Lisa, is a South Korea-based Thai singer, rapper, and dancer. She is one of the members of the South Korean girl group Blackpink which YG Entertainment establishes.

Lisa was born in Buriram Province, Thailand, on March 27, 1997. Her birth name was Pranpriya Manobal, but later, she adopted Lalisa as her legal name after a fortune teller suggested she change her name.
Her mother is Chitthip Brüschweiler, who is Thai and Marco Brüschweiler is her stepfather and he is a well-known chef. She attended Praphamontree School I and II, where she finished her secondary education.
When she was 4, she began dance classes and regularly participated in dance competitions since she was a child, along with competing in “To Be Number One.” She was also among We Zaa Cool’s dance crew beside BamBam of Got7.
The group entered the LG Entertainment Million Dream Sanan World telecast on Channel 9 in September 2009 and received the award for “Special Team.” In Early 2009, the Moral Promotion Center hosted “Top 3 Good Morals of Thailand,” She also participated in a singing competition as a school representative.
At the age of 13, Lisa gave an audition to join the South Korean record label YG Entertainment in 2010 in Thailand. Since she was young, she has been interested in K-pop idols, including artists Big Bang and 2NE1, and hoped to follow in their footsteps someday.
Lisa was the sole one who qualified amongst the 4,000 applicants. That led the former CEO, Yang Hyun-suk, to allow her to become a trainee at YG Entertainment.
At the auditions, she also succeeded in impressing Danny I’m of 1TYM, who was one of the judges, and later, he even praised her confidence on the stage and her attitude off the stage.
She relocated to South Korea in 2011 to start her official training as a trainee, and she remained a trainee for five years. On April 11, 2011, Lisa officially joined the label as their first non-ethnically Korean trainee.
She appeared in November 2013 in Taeyang’s music video for the single entitled “Ringa Linga” as a background dancer with members of iKon and Winner. She got her first modeling assignment in March 2015 for the street-wear line Nona9on and later in 2016 for the South Korean cosmetics line Moonshot.
Lisa speaks many languages. She is fluent in Thai, Korean and English, including basic Chinese and Japanese.
Lisa caught the coronavirus infection on November 24, 2021, and reportedly, she was “in an excellent condition with no symptoms.” as of the subsequent day. She tested negative on December 4, 2021, and has completely recovered from the infection.
In 2016, Lisa made her debut as one of the members of the South Korean girl group titled “Blackpink.” Blackpink made their debut with a single album entitled “Square One” with two lead singles, “Whistle” and “Boombayah.”
“Whistle” dominated all the South Korean charts right after its debut. By 2020, two studio albums were released by the group, “Blackpink in Your Area” and “The Album,” 3 extended plays entitled “Blackpink,” “Square Up,” and “Kill This Love,” including two single albums entitled “Square One” and “Square Two.”
Since 2018, the MBC military variety program Real Man 300 cast Lisa as a permanent member of the show as part of the Korea Army Academy edition, marking her very first permanent role in a television program the debut.
In the same year, this role brought her an unofficial award for “Character of the Year” at the MBC Entertainment Awards.
In late 2018, Lisa revealed her YouTube channel named “Lilifilm Official,” in which she posted lifestyle and traveling videos besides dance performances.
By 2019, she already had more than 1.3 million subscribers. In 2020, one of her dance performance videos became viral because of a meme in which screencaps of her legs were juxtaposed with a character or public figure’s torso, usually with the caption “Did it work?”.
Many other celebrities also took part in the meme, including Stephen Colbert. James Corden, Dolly Parton, Lil Nas X, and Luke Evans shared snaps of themselves with Lisa’s legs.
She became the dance mentor in March 2020 throughout the second season of iQIYI’s Chinese girl group survival program Youth With You.
In early 2021, Lisa returned as the dance mentor for the third season of the Chinese boy group survival show Youth With You.
In April 2021, one of YG Entertainment’s officials disclosed to the South Korean media outlet “The Korea Herald” that Lisa is scheduled to make her debut as the third soloist from her group, which will be declared later officially via a notice and then her label confirmed on July 12 through Star News that shooting for her music video is undergoing.
In September 2021, her debut single album entitled “Lalisa” and its lead single of the same name came out.
Shortly after its release, the music video “Lalisa” gained the highest viewership as a soloist, with 73.6 million views within 24 hours. It broke the record of Taylor Swift’s “Me!” which featured Brendon Urie and had gained 65.2 million views within 24 hours of release.
The song ranked number 84 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the Billboard Global 200, and that became her first top-10 hit on the latter. The single album also made the record for the highest first-week sales amongst all female artists and Lisa became the first female soloist who achieve 500,000 copies in first-week sales.
After this, the B-side song titled “Money” became the second single of the album and ranked number ninety on the Billboard Hot 100. The single ranked number 10 on the Billboard Global 200.
She announced her partnership with DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Megan Thee Stallion in October 2021, releasing a teaser of the song “SG.” The song ranked number 2 on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and peaked at number nineteen on the Billboard Global 200.
Lisa’s work as a model for the South Korean cosmetics line Moonshot made her their brand ambassador in China in 2018.
In 2019, she was appointed as the brand ambassador and presenter exclusively for the new collection introduced in Thailand, in which 6 of the products have Manoban’s signature as a part of the packaging.
In the same year, she had her first solo endorsement pact for AIS Thailand, the largest GSM mobile phone operator in Thailand, making her the highest-paid brand presenter for AIS. In addition, her ad campaign became the highest-rated advertisement in Thailand.
Lisa was appointed as the Vivo S9 smartphone’s endorser on February 22, 2021.
She became the muse of Hedi Slimane, the artistic, creative, and image director for a French luxury brand, Celine, in January 2019. Lisa declared their global ambassador in September 2020.
In June 2020, Lisa appeared in the brand’s Essentials campaign, shot by creative director Hedi Slimane and extensively pictured in Celine attires and accessories. The brand said in a statement, “We are pleased to announce the continued collaboration of Celine with Lisa, who will represent the house as a Global Ambassador.”
In November 2020, the announcement came by Penshoppe about making Lisa their new ambassador. She was formally appointed as the new brand ambassador on July 24, 2020, representing an Italian luxury brand, Bulgari.
