Drake Net Childhood

Drake Graham was born in Toronto, Canada, on October 24, 1986. Dennis Drake, Drake’s father, was a drummer who worked with performers such as Jerry Lee Lewis throughout his career.

Alias Sandi, Drake’s mother, Sandra, worked as an English teacher and florist. Drake attended a Jewish day school and appropriately celebrated his Bar Mitzvah.

When Aubrey was five years old, Sandi and Dennis split. His father later relocated to Memphis, where he was caught and imprisoned for several years on narcotics charges.

Aubrey remained in Toronto with his mother while visiting his father in Memphis each summer (when his father was not incarcerated). Drake would subsequently claim Dennis was missing from his upbringing, charges Dennis has angrily refuted and alleged were inflated to increase album sales.

Drake and his mother resided on the lower half of a two-story townhouse in Forest Hill, an upscale neighborhood. Drake resided in the basement with his mother, who lived on the street-level floor. They were not wealthy; in fact, money was scarce.

Drake discovered a love for acting and singing while attending Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. He then attended Vaughan Road Academy, where he faced bullying due to his bi-racial and religious heritage. He briefly skipped out but finally graduated in 2012.

Drake Net Career in Music

Inspired by the success of independent artists such as Jay-Z, Aubrey – who was now going by the stage name “Drake” – began producing mixtapes in 2006.

He released his debut mixtape “Room for Improvement” in February 2005 on his website and his MySpace page. He sold almost 6,000 copies immediately. The next year, he released his second mixtape, “Comeback Season.” He distributed the mixtape on his newly founded label October’s Very Own (OVO Records).

This mixtape included the underground smash “Replacement Girl.” The song’s music video was the first to be shown on BET by an unsigned Canadian rapper. One version of the song used a sample from Brisco, Flo Rida, and Lil Wayne’s song “Man of the Year.”

Jas Prince, a Houston-based producer and founder of Rap-A-Lot Records, heard the record and sent it along to Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne was pleased and phoned Drake to invite him to join him on his Tha Carter III tour in Houston.

Drake and Wayne collaborated on many songs throughout the tour, including “Brand New,” “Forever,” and “Ransom.”
