Kevin Hart is an American stand-up comedian and actor who was born as Kevin Darnell Hart in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 6, 1979, and he is the son of Henry Witherspoon and Nancy Hart.

His mother has raised him as a single parent and was working as a systems analyst for the Office of Student Registration and Financial Services at the University of Pennsylvania.

Personal Life

Kevin Hart’s father “Henry Witherspoon” was a cocaine addict who was in and out of prison across the maximum of Kevin’s childhood. He uses the surname of his mother and also has one elder brother whose name is Robert.

He completed his high school at George Washington High School and went to attend the Community College of Philadelphia, but soon he dropped his studies and relocated to New York City. After some time, he shifted to Brockton, Massachusetts, where he started working as a shoe salesman. 

His bond with his father began to improve following when the latter got rid of his drug addiction. “My dad said I was supposed to be on drugs. I was like, ‘Dad, shut up, but then I thought about it, and it was stupid, but it made sense. He was saying that basically, he was my example to never go down that road,” Hart said.

His mother passed away in 2007 due to cancer.

In February 2010, he filed for divorce with his wife Torrei Hart with whom he has two kids, one daughter named Heaven Leigh and a son Hendrix and he also got joint custody of his kids. In November 2011, their divorce was confirmed.

The actor-comedian proposed to Eniko Parrish on August 18, 2014, and after about two years, on August 13, 2016, the duo got married. They welcomed their first child on November 21, 2017, and within a month of the birth of their son, he confessed in public that when his wife was pregnant, he cheated on her.

On September 29, 2020, the couple had their second child, they welcomed their daughter on September 29, 2020.

On August 5, 2013, he was sent for probation of three years following his pleaded no contest to a count of drunk driving.

Hart had a slow career start, his first performance didn’t do quite well and he had to face mocking several times on stage, in fact, once a chicken piece was also thrown at him. 

Following he had many unsuccessful performances, he decided to enter into a comedy contest, and eventually, audiences realized that his performances have improved. 

During his initial times, he used to mimic comedians like Chris Tucker, but over time he figured out his unique comedic style with his own experiences and insecurities. He himself said “Because of what I do, it has to be an open book,” adding “But right now this is a book that is being written.”

His career took off with his 2009 act titled I’m a Grown Little Man, after which he also acted in 2010 Seriously Funny. In 2011 he acted in a comedy documentary film, Laugh at My Pain, and in 2013 Let Me Explain. Through his performance in Laugh at My Pain, Hart earned more than $15 million and the film became one of the top-selling comedy tours of the year. 

Did he start off a comedy world tour named What Now? Tour at the AT&T Center in San Antonio on April 9, 2015, which ended at the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, Georgia on August 7, 2016.

With Paper Soldiers, he made his film debut and thereafter he gathered appreciation for his performance in many other films like Scary Movie franchise, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Soul Plane, Little Fockers, and Death at a Funeral.

In 2012, he did The Five-Year Engagement and the film became a hit at the box office and in the follow-up also appeared. 

He appeared in 2014 Ride Along and though the film was a hit at Box Office it also attracted many negative reviews from critics. In 2016, he returned for the sequel of the film to reprise his role. 

His recent works include The Upside (2019), Fatherhood (2021), Die Hart (2020).

On June 9, 2020, the second season of the series ROKU and Hart’s multi-platform comedy brand Laugh Out Loud returned to ROKU. In 2019, Hart signed on to cast in and produce Monopoly, Black Friday, an untitled international romantic comedy, Extreme Job, and Scrooged.

In January 2021, he signed a first-look deal with Netflix. Hart will also play the character of the master thief in the Netflix heist film Lift. The film is set to be directed by F. Gary Gray.

He established Laugh Out Loud in 2017 which is the production and digital comedy network and the purpose behind establishing this network is to give appropriate opportunities to all the best comedians across the world. In 2019, Hart bought most of Lionsgate’s stakes and became the majority owner of the network. 

Since its founding, he rapidly extended LOL’s reach by securing collaboration pacts with Roku, PlutoTV, Facebook, Snap, Peacock, and YouTube.

Since 2004, he has been nominated for more than 50 awards and won 18 of them.

He took home his first award in 2012 at BET Awards for Best Actor for Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain. In 2014, he won 7 awards in total.

For Real Husbands of Hollywood, he won two awards at NAACP Image Awards and won for Entertainer of the Year, then at Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for Grudge Match, at Acapulco Black Film Festival, he won the award for Artist of the year and at Teen Choice Awards, he won the award for Choice Movie Actor: Comedy and another for Choice Comedian.

In 2015, he took home one award and in the following year four awards. In 2017, he won four awards and the last award he won was in 2018.
