Space Force Season 3: Netflix’s Renewal Status and what to expect from the next episode

Space Force is one of Netflix’s most successful comedy series to date, with Steve Carrell returning for the show’s second season. Will the show return for a third season? What can we expect from the upcoming season, and how did season 2 fare? Consider the following.

Netflix renewed Space Force for a second season many months after the show’s premiere. The first season premiered in May 2020, but the show was not renewed until November 2020. Season 2 premiered globally on Netflix on February 18th, 2022.

Netflix Has Renewed Space Force for a Third Season?

As of late February 2022, there has been no decision on the future of Space Force on Netflix, although if the season 2 ending is any indication, a season 3 is planned.

Renewals are often announced about a month or two after new seasons of television shows premiere.

We believe the show is in danger of cancellation because it was renewed for a second season, notably how it received a budget cut and a shift in a production site.

As you may recall, season 2 shifted production from Los Angeles to Vancouver to save money and resulted in a shakeup in the writer’s room. Additionally, its episode count was cut from ten to seven.

The decreased budget may imply that season 1 fell short of expectations, but it was given another shot rather than abandon the project. Unless the show can pull off the math (more on that in a moment), it’s unlikely that we’ll see the third installment.

One bright area for the series’ future is that the second season’s review consensus appears to be slightly better, but with fewer reviews at the time of publication.

How well-received is Space Force season 2 on Netflix?

As previously indicated, a third season renewal will be determined by viewership.

We can get a sense of how well the series is performing through various approaches, but the reality is that we won’t have a complete picture until about the middle of March.

Season 1 attracted 40 million members in its first month, but unfortunately, we will not see a comparable level for this season.

Rather than that, we’ll collect hourly statistics that we can compare to other comedies. We anticipate receiving the first batch of hourly data on February 22nd, 2022.

We understand that the series did not get off to the best of beginnings throughout the world, thanks to FlixPatrol’s top ten data. In the United States, the series debuted at number five in the television top ten on both its first and second days on the service. It lost to Inventing Anna; Love is Blind, Sweet Magnolias, and The Cuphead Show!

Below, you can see which nations had the show remain in the top 10 for the longest period. It is naturally popular in the United States and Canada and performed well in Australia, Eastern European countries, and Nordic countries.

What to Expect from Season 3 of Space Force

By the end of season 2, most of the characters are in the same situation as they were at the start of the season.

The majority of the protagonists have chosen to remain in Space Force, having received wage increases and the future of the military branch ensured.

Naturally, season 2 finishes on a cliffhanger, with a large asteroid speeding towards the Earth (yep, this is the same narrative of Netflix’s Don’t Look Up). The team discovers the asteroid due to Hawaii’s telescope becoming operational.

Once the astronauts, scientists, and generals recognize the approaching asteroid and accept their imminent death, they break into song (performing Kokomo by The Beach Boys), a throwback to season 1.

We’ll keep this site updated over the next month as we await viewing statistics for the new season, which will allow us to more properly estimate if the show will return for a third season.
