With the last installment of the Total War: Warhammer trilogy set to arrive precisely one week from tomorrow, we should be ecstatic about what’s in store: In the hitherto undiscovered regions of Kislev and Cathay, four factions of Chaos Gods assault the borders of mortal kingdoms.

Never before in the history of Warhammer has a Warhammer game treated us with such an abundance of stunning new material.

However, much as past Total War: Warhammer games introduced new and surprising factions through DLC. We can’t help but wonder what DLC factions will be included this time. According to chief writer Andy Hall, it is not plausible that it will be Ind, Khuresh, or Nippon.

Andy Hall began his response to those three groups in an interview with YouTuber ItalianSpartacus with a safe ‘never say never’ mantra. However, he later revealed a more conclusive answer:

“People are clinging on for dear life for one of these other countries,” he said to ItalianSpartacus. “Do not lose any sleep; this will not happen anytime soon. I’m afraid not. Cathay Pacific was an excellent coup for us. That is not to say it will not be repeated.”

That puts a stop to that line of conjecture. Still, Hall is correct in stating that introducing Cathay (and, to a lesser degree, Kislev) to the game alongside Games Workshop when they were building the faction is a tremendous accomplishment.

Total War: Warhammer III has already transported us to the seldom-explored Ogre Kingdoms, Kislev, Grand Cathay, and the kingdoms of four separate Chaos Gods. Players will already be exposed to many visuals and conflict situations that seem somewhat unlike previous Warhammer games.

Naturally, this limits the kind of DLC included in the game. When we questioned producer Ian Roxburgh about DLC last October, he stated: “Certainly stretching out the outskirts of Cathay, there’s much more to come in the future.”
