Ricky Gervais is returning to stand-up comedy with the only goal to get canceled. The 60-year old is expecting to get fully acquainted with the cancel culture with his latest stand-up show “Armageddon” and stretch the limits of comedy.

He told the Heat magazine recently that one thing he has decided to certainly do and is really eager about is his new stand-up show. Besides, he also added that he is treating it as if it were his final ever act. He then said that he wants to put all his efforts into it and try to get canceled going out there.

The Englishman, who has been a constant host of Golden Globes explained that there is no topic on which there should not be a joke. It depends on the joke. As a journalist, there is nothing one would not write about. It depends on one’s point of view.

He also said that according to him many of these pious offense comes from people misunderstanding the aim of the joke with the topic. Gervais went on to add that one can joke about anything but it is dependent on what the real target is.

If one uses irony and people view that at face value and think you are saying one thing but you are actually conveying the opposite. In his interview with Heat, Gervais also talked about the idea that most people in Hollywood have that he “killed” the Golden Globes.

He has hosted the telecast five times in 2010-12, 2016, and 2020. He pleaded that it was not his fault and he did not kill the awards, and also that he liked hosting the Golden Globes and for many people, it is what he is most known for.

With a sigh, he concluded that the last time he hosted it was two years and now it seems like another time when the worst thing that was happening was him humiliating actors. 


Gervais accepted that being in charge of the event was the most stressful job he has ever done. He said that he only cares about one thing and that is about doing his jokes well.  He is not bothered by what others make of it or if he is loathed or if he has to hide. He signed off by saying that if he messed up the joke then he would never get over it.
