Mission Impossible 7 and 8

In a statement, Paramount and Skydance stated that after properly considering the situation, Paramount Pictures and Skydance have unanimously decided to push the release dates for Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 as a response to postponements due to the current pandemic.

The changed release dates will be July 14, 2023, and June 28, 2024, respectively for the upcoming installments. They are looking forward to offering movie enthusiasts an exceptional theatrical experience.

Cruise, Paramount, and Skydance still have Top Gun: Maverick on the calendar set to release on May 27, 2022. That movie is not expected to be delayed. Mission: Impossible – Fallout maker Christopher McQuarrie is the director of the seventh and eighth installments of the franchise.

The ensemble cast includes Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Angela Bassett, Cary Elwes, Indira Varma, Rob Delaney, and Charles Parnell.

Reason for the Postponed

This decision comes as Paramount’s Scream enjoys a great run at the box office, earning $54.9 million worldwide since its premiere on Jan. 14. While many big studios like Warner Bros.

and Disney has sent high-profile movies to OTT platforms for streaming, Paramount has kept many of its big names, such as A Quiet Place Part II for theaters. Both the movies featuring Tom Cruise in the Mission franchise as well as his next Top Gun: Maverick is supposed to be theatrical films only as Cruise is an advocate of the theatrical experience and because of the exorbitant budgets of the films.

Cruise has portrayed the role of IMF agent Ethan Hunt for more than 25 years, starting with the 1996 original. Fallout, released in 2018, was the record-earning film in the franchise’s history with $791.1 million worldwide.

The films are famous for breaking the boundaries of the action genre, with one trademark stunt being the focal point of their marketing. In August, Cruise and McQuarrie exhibited the footage of M:I 7 to theater holders at CinemaCon, including the recent death-defying exploit of Cruise for the film. McQuarrie, in a video, said that the only thing that frightens him more is what they have planned for Mission 8.
